I read somewhere that the Arabs have taken out over 12million slaves out of east Africa. When the Portuguese, the first of Africa's European colonist arrived on the east coast of Africa in the late 1400s, they found the Arabs already there getting rich of the slave trade. With that in mind, Maryooley being sold off by Arabs is an abomination and a crime against humanity.

As for Yalaxow's claims, surprisingly he's right. Apparently, you can't "capture" a Muslim and enslave him/her, but a slave that converts to Islam (and their progeny) isn't automatically freed

Misplaced anger/hate

If the modern world was not so civilized, we as Somalis would have been slaves all over the globe because of our innate hate for one another. In west Africa, ethnic communities fought and the losers/weakest were sold to the white man. If we were on that side of the world during that time, believe me we would have been selling each other based on clans. Now since we don't have a government and we shoot down every attempt to do so and we enjoy killing and bringing each other down, don't be surprised when others take advantage of us.

You have to understand that the slave trading helped to destroy the native civilizations. It did so by maintaining a state of perpetual inter-tribal warfare, as tribe raided tribe to secure captives to sell to the slavers. West Africans had it bad, we Somalis are lucky and blessed.

You don't get it do you? Bilal was a muslim slave! He was freed. Abu Bakr freed Bilal after finding out that he was being troutured cause he converted to Islam. .Freeing a muslim slave does not mean muslims can have slaves, you should learn from Abu Bakr's example. What I am telling you is that, how do you know who the slave owner is? It could be a mushrik like in the case of Bilal.

It's becoming increasingly difficult not to make blanket statements about Arabs.

As for slavery, this has always been a point of contention for me. As for these people, they aren't slaves and what's happening here is haraam. I hope Allah gives them the judgment they deserve.

Are you saying Muslims cannot have slaves, or that you can't have a Muslim slave?

muslims can have both muslim slaves and non muslim slaves according quran and hadith!!
