Is that Islamicaly speaking, or Somalily? I've never actually looked into this, but have wondered. I've always thought it would've been the other way around.

In Somali culture, you usually only marry from your maternal side. However, I added the no first cousin rule myself since I think its wrong (birth defect possiblity). But its done in Somali culture.

Islamically, it is not forbidden in the Quran and its done of course in Muslim countries. Except that in other Islamic countries other than Somalia, they usually do it through paternal side rather than maternal

I was walking home a took a short cut to some dodgy side streets in Soho area....saw a Somali looking guy up to illegal looking stuff and I was being nosy. I was really young, mid teens and it was the first time I met a Somali guy like that.
