Traditionally it was for wars. My grandmother told us stories about Diisow and how it was the only way women would know what is going on. The reer Waamo, unfortunately, mistreat their women more than any other Somali clan. So when the men are about to go to a war, they don't tell the women anything. They would normally meet up somewhere away from the families, and then would get the blood going through the chants of Diisow.The common chants of Disow include:
ee hooyaa waan kuu digayaa
Dardaaran u diyaar garoow....

When you hear that warriors mean business.
