I grew up with the "shilin" version and as mentioned shilin=tick(s) that feed on animals' blood. It's like an opening remark to a story. Besides dhegdheer n cigaal shidaad, there are many stories on "qori ismaris", u know niggas who transform into beasts at night. There was a story of a girl getting chased by a lion 'till she climbs a tree. Her brother is a talented archer, he comes and shoots the lion in btwn the eyes. Another story was on a nigga who was a broke as fuck, he was naked and cold under a tree when he was found by a wealthy woman. she takes him home and changes his life and even gets married to him. After a lil bit the nigga forgets where he came from and starts to become annoying and the woman discards him. that's where the phrase "sade lama xajiyo" as in people dont know how to hold on to good things comes from. Another story on a nigga who kills another nigga and the killed niggas was a pious and god fearing nigga, so when he's killer goes him, he has a talking bird following him saying " he killed so and so" forgot most of 'em.

I heard they say there was a beautiful girl (Most likely Jinn) standing roadside near Berbera (Just before you enter it) that causes people go missing/crash. Don't know if this is true.

Somali bedtime stories caadi maaha  why would you tell children something that will give them nightmares. For whole of my childhood I was terrified of getting out of bed at night. The stories about Madax kuti and qoori ismaris where the worst. :mindblown: However I loved the stories about Habar dugaag and likewise.
Who remember the story about the Maroodi and hashii Cosob:

“Maroodi maroodi
maroodi cadhoole
Haddii col la sheego
Cadaadda-ku-meere
Hashii Cosob waa tan

Walaloow I'm gonna try my best waxan ka xasuusto:

Bari baa waxa meel wada degena Hal iyo Qalanjo maroodi. Muddo bey labaduba ubad dhaleen. Maalin baa intey hashu iyo maroodigu maqnaayeen, ayey nirigtii ilmihii maroodiga dhisey. Hashii markey soo noqotoy ayey aragtey iney nirigteedi ayey dishay maroodiga dhasheedi oo baqdin awgeed ayey la baxsatey nirigtee.
Markey xooga socdeen ayey aragtey odey geeljire ah markaasey tidhi:

Odeyoow ma i maasha, ma i maraqdaa oo ma iga reebta, maroodi cadhoole. Saas buu odeygii ku kaxeystay.

maroodigii markay aregtey dhasheedi iney dhimatay bay aad u cadhootey oo ay raadisey hashii iyo nirigteedi.
Dabagaale ayey weydiisey dabagaalihiina, markuu yidhi ma arg bey intey xaanaqdey damacdey iney ku joogsato. Intuu ka carerey buu yidhi (isagoo ku ciyaareya):

Maroodi mooridi
maroodi cadhoole
hadii col la sheego
cadaada ku meere
hashii cosob waa tan.

sheekada dhamaadkeed aad uma xasusto, laakin it ends with maroodiga dying. Dabagaaleha ayaa intu daba ka galo diley.

You wouldn't believe it if i told you recently i found 2 German books on somali "habar Dugaag" folk tales , at least over 20 stories on both books, it was written some where around 1896-1903 and the strange thing is its in German/Somali text side by side of course the Somali is not the modern somali 1974 script , but one deviced by the German collector , you can still read it though, and both books are online free :mindblown: , but if i gave it up the somali tuugs will make money out of it.
