That's known as shirta. Shirib would know more about it than I would. It's a slaughter of some sorts.

Did you ever know of Istunka Afgooye prior?

Maya.Only heard of stories from Saakow.

Hope Shirib tells us.

@Tuushi - Istunka was an age-old tradition that some claim went as far back as the Ajuuraan dynasty. Biyamaal were known warriors in the Shabelles and after harvest each year, their strongest warriors would gather in an open field & have a big stick fight. Some of the beatings stories would say were so severe that some of the young men would die from them, but during the actual fighting, a warrior did not show his pain. Did not even so much as flinch, let alone give a cry of pain. The young ladies would all be present of course and the winners would be more favored to marry these young women. Somalia is much more diverse than people think, specially in the South. Shiidle don't even speak just Maay, they have their own unique tongue. Then you have Tuni, Dabarre & Eeylo who all have their own languages, along with Baraawe folk. So much for "Soomaalida oo dhan waa isku luuqad!"

Ever heard of Muruqle?

Muruqle are the native people of Marka i.e. the light skins who have but all fled or become reduced to a tiny percentage after the war. Chefs and cooks in Marka were so skilled that, they could make oodkac out of fish.

Advanced & civilized populations, both in Marka and Baraawe. The food alone was out of this world. :lawd:

Yeah I've heard of biyomaal but the rest, never. The only dances I grew up with are Diisoow which I've posted on the forums, and Saar which I couldn't find. I remember trying but always failing to learn. I never had a rhythm for dancing and later I found out that while you're playing, shit gets real, you get high out of the dance or at least people did and you pull out a knife and stab your forearms. That's when I put all efforts to stop cuz that shyt was messed up.
