By somali standards we have A military, however on many African and world standards we have an organized militia. Good ideas, Lakiin I was thinking more about organisational changes. The army needs to be increased in man power. It needs proper disciplined regiments and divisions- particularly a heavy artillery division. It also needs to scrap all of its old, useless and outdated equipment like the tanks from the 1950s that are expensive to maintain. Believe it or not, the technical is vastly superior tactically. We need improvised armoured and mechanized units that suit our terrain, meaning lighter and faster modes of transport. We need to also develop a fleet of medium-sized cargo planes for logistics and surveillance. There are many other things I can't think of at the moment, in other words SL's "army" needs a massive and drastic overhaul.

The Somaliland military budget is quite small. It's around $20 million per year. But the military budget is roughly 20% of the Somaliland annual budget. Ideally, 20% is too much to allocate to one area but Somaliland and other African countries are an obvious exception. They don't have that much coming in in terms of revenue but at the same time, the military is a must.

Unfortunately, with a budget of just $20 million, there is no money to by any equipment or to employ many people. An F-35 unit goes from around $150 million. This is the standard fighter jet for any modern military. Not only does it cost more than the annual Somaliland budget but in fact, you need $50 million more in order to just buy 1 unit.

Somalis need to ally themselves with either the US or China. Become their bitch for a little bit. A lot of countries do this in order to get funding for their military or other areas. But Somalis have too much pride. They need to realize this is the only way to prosperity. South Korea was given aid by the US when our parents were in their diapers. It was a poor and useless country with no prospects. Langaabs of the world. Starving. Dying. An eyesore to look at.They took the aid, used it to develop some sectors especially the electronics sector and look at it now. Among the richest nations in the world with recognizable brands: Hyundai, Kia, Samsung, LG and Daewoo

Saudi Arabia buys billions of dollars worth of sophisticated military hardware every few years, yet I guarantee that if Yemen invaded, they wouldn't be able to do shit. You are right, somalis need a strategic ally that is able to provide aid and economic investment. The problem is the Americans are fickle and interfere in everything, while the Chinese are corrupt and stingy, only using their own for labour to reduce spending.
