what i want is simple.

Big screen. Able to surf the net. Text, calls, apps. Takes great pictures

Don't know a lot about this stuff.

What I know is the iphone5 is popular
The iPhone is popular and I do like it a lot but it is crazy expensive if you can't find a good deal or buy one off someone cheap.

The Samsung Galaxy SIII is hugely popular but, in my humble opinion and experience, the camera is definitely not the best out there despite what many reviews say.

HTC S One is a little more understated, still has a large enough screen, has a great camera, but the battery life is disappointing. Unless you are willing to take certain measures to stretch the battery life (like dimming the screen brightness, only turning on wifi when needed, limiting the number of open apps, keep the home screen simple, etc) and you use apps like Netflix and others each day, you might find you have to recharge it partway through your day. I conserve energy on my HTC S One but still use it quite a bit during the day, mostly surfing the web and texting, and I adore the camera so I don't mind charging it each night - once a day isn't bad in my opinion.

I would imagine the HTC One X would have a similar camera quality though I can't say for sure since I haven't used it.

I suggest just looking for a relatively cheaper phone in comparison to the popular Galaxy SIII and iPhone. Many phones are made with large screens, so once you find a few well-priced phones you like from a phone carrier you prefer, just compare their utilities on Youtube videos. I never trust reviews, I just observe how they may be used through watching others use it. Hope you find a good phone, inshaa Allah.

Since you're on a limited budget you can forget about the Samsung Galaxy S3, Samsung Note 2, iPhone 5 (sucks anyway), HTC One X...

You're best bet is to look at excellent phones that are affordable such as the Samsung Galaxy S2 or Motorola RAZR i. If you got ebay and know your way around it you can get a brand new one for about £180 - £250 through Auctions, just make sure not to get ripped off.
