Although Somalis have been predominantly Muslim for many centuries now, the hijab was not a common garment to wear until the 1990s. It was then that Somali women began adopting the hijab en masse.

There are more friendly Somali forums but this place has its own charm. lol Enjoy your stay.

Thank you for your welcome. See, facts like this are interesting to me, especially considering how seemingly all Somali sisters here wear long khimar and abaya! I don't want to know anything too deep or intimate about Somalis just basic knowledge like this and maybe basic understanding of history and current political situation. I consider it good etiquette to have some degree of familiarity with all other groups of people that I live among.

Not really. How about I rephrase the question. Do you believe any of the extreme clannist, racists and overall obnoxious people in here would say any of the things that spew here daily IRL?

they would, have you ever spent 10 mins in Somali coffee shop? that is why they call it fadhi ku dirir, sometimes fights broke out. I have seen an owner post a sign that says "No political discussions pls"

No, I have never sat down at a Somali coffee shop. If the only Somalis that I ever encountered were on SomaliNet then I would definitely have a less favorable opinion of Somalis to say the least.

Sure, he says:

This one is even counting his lineage, (mockingly) he says "I'm a Pashtun and from them a Muuse". Dude, this place can barely handle 3 tribes (meaning Somali ones) so calm yourself.

Hey thanks for translation! Apparently Somalis are as tribal as Pashtuns...
Sidenote: I never actually revealed my own qaum/tribe, just region I'm from, my actual tribal lineage is irrelevant outside of Pashtun communities.

Oh not a problem, I was just giving you a very formal greeting and asking if you spoke Pashto. Of course I'm obligated to ask - Can you say why you were in Helmand on an internet forum? And given that you have experience in Pashtun heartland; As a Somali, how would you compare our cultures? Are there notable similarities? Or are we very different and in what ways? What is your basic impression of Pashtuns and please be honest. I can be very critical of my own people and certainly prefer to hear the truth from others even if it is not good haha.
