They killed him with a very expensive missile when other jihadists like Hasan Awes/Sharif, etc were roaming around freely. They did that for a reason as he was the founder of Shababs and the most extremist guy @ the time.

He was never a moderate, he was actually the most feared man in Somalia. I remember asking a somali reporter why they never interviewed him and he said "if Cayrow looks @ at u in a certain way u'll be dead by tomorrow. No1 messes with him."
