Why switch from one foreign-origin name to another? How are dinar, riyal or dirham unique when they're used by several other countries? For the record, the Latinate root is denarius, it's not originally Arabic, and the same for dirham which is originally from the Greek drachme. Is there a Somali-origin term for currency?

At least the words dinar and dirham are mentioned in Islam, so that should mean something for 99% of Somalis who are Muslims. Clearly, Shilling is something associated with colonization.
