Does anyone remember these photos back in 2010
. I think it was a June 26 celebration based on the image links info. It's obvious from the pics who celebrates the June 26 celebrations more.

I personally don't celebrate.

what a silly thought.Perfect_Order wrote:Maybe independence shouldn't of ever happened.
26th of june was already expected because by 1948 the british wanted to get rid of its colonies, and the UN mandated only 10 years to prepare independence in 1950.
All the struggles against the british like demonstrations and anti british actions started in 1948 when they gave the haud to ethiopia. This also started Somaliweyn disease in the north particularly the Isaaq.
Somaliweyn was seen as a way to get back the haud that was given to ethiopia by allying with southern somalis.
so 26th june was anti-climatic because it was expected, and in Somaliland there was not much british influence in the first place. My grandmother was born in the 20's and she remembers 26th june, and she recalls the first time she saw a white man was in the late 50's.
On the other hand 18th may is deeply held by somalilanders as our independence day,
because we fought for it, it means something. also 26th june has associations with unity with the south and this is seen as something unpleasant to forget about, not celebrate.

I don’t think the guy was the only Somalilander there. In this photo you see police talking to a Somalilander. Seriously
