At a time when states are struggling to reduce bloated prison populations and tight budgets, a private prison management company is offering to buy prisons in exchange for various considerations, including a controversial guarantee that the governments maintain a 90% occupancy rate for at least 20 years.

The fact remains that 70% of black inmates are serving time for drug related offenses, although the percentage of African American drug users mirror that of Caucasians. Now factor in the rates of disenfranchisement, broken and/or single parent led homes, diminished employement opportunities, recidivism rates, and in many states, losing one's right to welfare, housing, and financial loans (student or otherwise). Despite creating an under-class, more prisons are being built, more businesses use prison labor as it is more cost-effective than outsourcing, politicians are re-elected because they threw x amount of people (typically black) in prison, police department's budgets swell, and complementary businesses get their piece of the pie by providing an array of goods and services (surveillance, weapons, gadgets, etc). Which reminds me of Marilyn Frye's writings on oppression and her bird cage analogy:

"If you look very closely at just one wire in the cage, you cannot see the other wires. If your conception of what is before you is determined by this myopic focus, you could look at that one wire, up and down the length of it, and be unable to see why a bird would not just fly around the wire any time it wanted to go somewhere ... They're not political prisoners. Most of them are drug dealers, murderers and rapists. All crimes.

Most blacks in prison are in for drug charges, and the majority of those are minor marijuana offenses which is mainly simple possession and use. There are more non-black murders, rapists, and drug dealers who live freely among everyone in society, like George Zimmerman, who moved to Florida to escape rape charges. I don't see you acknowledging that fact, or caring.

Get your priorities in order.

Injustice is still injustice, despite who the oppressed is. Despite your personal belief of a hierarchy (Arabs/Syrians being at the top), that is the reality.

Islam is also one of the fasting growing religions in the world, especially within prisons. You speak ill of African Americans when they're gaals but when the same ex drug dealer takes the shahada and marries a Somali girl, you will probably be the first to say "mashaAllah, diinta ha la faafiyo" because, after all, we are all brothers and sisters in Islam. It's a shame you don't recognize the systemic racism that has essentially led imprisoned African Americans (and others) to Islam.
