It has been yes. But no one speaks it anymore other than the ones that live in the middle east. It's not about having a second language, it's just that Arabic (not oral) will be the writing script of Somali so there will be no more: Xagaa joogtaa in latin script. Thats not a good idea since most Somalis are used to the Latin script. I mean come on..Malay, Turkish speakers and so on have Latin scripts its easier to read.

No it's not easier to read LOL have you seen paltalk they can't even read what they send each other and have to phonetically guess

anyway when I read Arabic the words and letters are similar to each other.
Many Somalis if changed to an Arabic script would be diagnosed with dyslexia.
