Perfect_Order wrote:Kenya going in was totally their idea, and most of the Western powers were against it, it is only after they were in for months that they joined Amisom almost as an after thought. They joined because they realized they can get their plans done and do it with almost no cost.

Now they are in a quagmire considering they are the most powerful force in southern Somalia holding alshabab at bay there, which is seriously inhibiting alshabab. The West knows and I think they will be pressured not to leave more than ever now. Then there is Kenyatta who is in his first term, a defining moment for this newer breed of younger and educated leaders, and I think he will try to meet this head on. But this will come at a high cost. Right now patriotism and nationalism will call yo stand firm, but one more hit and the tourist economy will get hit so hard that there will be internal pressure to leave Somalia far alone.
Do you really think Kenya is what's stopping AS from Kismaayo and its surroundings? For fuck's sake, 15 guys held their so called National Army hostage in their own land. Besides, AS is carrying out attacks in hamar which has way more security forces than where the kenyans are, why?

I don't think Kenya will get out because of one event. Heck I don't think they'd be out even if the attacks were to increase by the dozens. If Alshabab wanted to make Kenya leave somalia, then they've taken the wrong approach. Matter of fact, this gives Kenya all the more reasons to stay in Somalia and "combat" terrorism and to secure "its borders".

Despite all that, I don't think there is any government anywhere in the world that really and genuinely cares for its citizens.

Tragedy!

Kenya needs to leave Somalia, they are burden with a sinister motives that are using certain clan (Ogaden, it's always them whether they are in Ethiopia or Kenya working for the enemies) grievances to serve their devious agenda!

Anyway, all indications indicate that Kenya will leave once this incident dies down, Kenya can't afford to take a hit on their tourism based economy GDP.

Decades of institutionalized corruption has led to the West Gate attacks. This corruption has affected & penetrated every level of the Kenyan governing structure including it's security apparatus. Kenyan officers routinely allow wounded Shabab figures to receive medical care in Kenya including in Nairobi. It's intelligence services despite being the most nurtured & babysat organization in all of Africa by the Western nations, especially after the 1998 Embassy Bombing has done nothing to improve the overall the Kenyan State.

For years now & especially in the past many months, Al Shabab has been able to frequently raid, assassinate & kidnap Kenyan government officials. IEDs is a common occurrence in many cities & localities in the NFD. Tourism has suffered a devastating setback & the Kenyan government has yet to devise a credible & legitimate anti-terror mechanism. I found it very unfortunate to see bunch of confused & horrified looking KDF personnel hiding around in shiny & advanced models of the FN-SCAR doing absolutely no justice to either the advanced weaponry & gadgets nor to the years of Western training.

Unless Kenya institutionalizes a new counter-insurgency & counter-terrorism strategy, reforms it's intelligence & police, & take punitive & deep actions against both the many open sympathizers & sleeper cells of Al Qaida in its country, it will suffer more similar humiliating nightmares.

To answer the topic question, no Kenya will not withdraw but as a result of this attack, the West will be more aggressively guiding Kenyan counter-terrorism efforts & it's overall geopolitical strategy in Southern Somalia. This will undoubtedly include more vigorous attempts to win the hearts & minds of the people of Southern Somalia.

They will withdraw in 6 months. This attack was devastating and a major embarrassment to the KDF. Already the conversations in Kenya are about what are we doing in Somalia. The average Kenyan is a decent soul whose main concerns center on making ends meet, drinking a cold beer and dancing. He is a tolerant man who cares little about international politics nor about the fate of his neighboring countries. Neutrality served Kenya's interest for many decades.

If Kenya throws in the towel and Leaves Somalia than Kenyans will be the biggest Pussies of Africa The Ugandans were hit to in 2010 during the world cup . Did they leave. But i can understand Kenya borders Somalia and they fear for their tourism industrious still if they leave they lose Alshabaab wins.

That means Kenya can be intimidated. Our xabashi neighbors lost more than 8000 troops in the war in Somalia and they are still there, standing stronger than ever. If Kenya gives up, than Shabaab wins i am sure Uhuro doesn't want to go down in the history as the biggest fulay of Africa, so he will stick around, for some time aslong as he gets some economic support from the international community.

Sometimes i think you Guys are lost in time or went back to time.

All that shit is gameover. AU + SNA + ethiopians troops will enter Kismayo in the coming months. to take the ports and take in RK's for training.

Jubba case is all over. Kenya have already lost politically and if they stay. it will be Raskomboni and the surrounding areas. the Kenyan case is closed, trust me
