Hyper,
It's definitely about who you know here. References and connections make all the difference. I've never gotten a call back from any application that I've used a cover letter for. Then again, my resumes have always been trash.

i thought you guys in the west at least more to qualification than here.
before you trash your resume, i never had one. i dont even know who has it. that shows doesnt even matters here. if you want job in the government, any ministry or position, there is office called, employment /job registry office. you just drop copy of your degree transcript and your take file number. them the most important is, you need to find, some one who knows some one in the department you are interest it.
if you some how got contact info of big guy that you sure he is busy or outside the country, drop that name and you may get luck to be hired on the spot. loool

Man, I never want to live in that place. I'd be homeless. Yes, qualifications certainly matter here. Especially for skilled professions.

I applied so many postings in my Company after graduation. I just used to fill the application and having my manager sign then drop in. I have been doing it for 7 months and didn't get the job. My Manager felt sorry for my ignorance and asked me one day, " Hey boy, Did anyone taught you how to look for a job in this country?" I told him ofcourse I know how to look for a job. I look for the position, look at the reguirement then apply if I think I have that. He was like

I don't blame you. How long have you been in this country? I told 11yrs. He was like

You need to learn Kid. He told me to go look for a job online, get the hiring manager's name and bring to him. I did that, and he called me after 3 days and told me to apply. I did that, then after 2 days got the Interview and one we letter, I got the job that I work in now. When I got the job, I went to him and asked him what the fock he did. He was like, I was not even sure if you will get the job because he told there was another candidate that someone referred but I knew you will be the second
To my surprise, the hiring manager knew almost everything about me when I went for the interview. He asked me about projects that I have done that I myself do not even remember.
From that day on, I just Look for who I know before I apply

lol same with me bro. that is the reason, i want to stay in school as long as i can afford at least until i got title , Doctor, or even better Doctor, researcher.....etc will be easy for me to get a job without humiliating myself! they literally worship titles here. even none sense degrees.
until my parents kick me out the house, i keep staying in school.lol

alsheikh, al3alamah, alda'eyah,al qathi, dictoor ( arabic style of doctor).. then the name! it's ridiculously embarrassing and painful to listen it!

I hope you know French. That's always a plus and pretty much puts you above 80% of folks applying.
