I don't want to shock you here, but America isn't "establishing an empire" - that empire was established in 1945. America is maintaining its empire.

The reasons for the Iraq war are muddied. The USG isn't openly stating them, so we can only conjecture as to what they might have been. But it is clear now that the global Islamicinsurgency has decided that Iraq is its main battlefield. Therefore, we must stay the course, fight and win, at all costs.
