I dont think its our place to dictate how others should live. You may not believe that polygmy to be justified for most, but if both parties agree then I dont need justification. The only time I would take issue is when it is an under-aged young woman with a much older man.

I dont want it for myself, however if others engage in it....more power to them.

Even though there is social, cultural and religious tolerance to polygamy in Somalia, it isn't really widely practiced. I think according to Islam (don't quote me on this), you are suppose to be in a plural relationship only if you can financial, emotionally, and physically fulfill your obligations to your wives and children. But of course this is abused by Muslim men.

I personally say that polygamy is a personal preference and so long as all the parties involved are happy and content with this sort of relationship, who are we to judge them. However, I of course, have an issues when a men takes up several wives and the women aren't even aware that their husband have multiple other relationships, which is what I think you are talking about when you are referring polygamy as a sex tourism. It is morally indecent to take the power to chose or to consent from the women involved. It is their life after all. If they are O.K with being in a polygamy relationship, then they wouldn't mind being in one, however, if she don't, taking the choice away from her should be a punishable crime in my eyes.

I didn't always looks at polygamy with favorable light, but that has changed since I met Somali Bantu families who practice plural marriages.
For me, this really hits a cord. Given the choice I know I would seek divorce instantly. I do not want to be in a polygamist marriage, whether I am the first wife or not.

You're already confusing yourself Sheikh and this is merely hypothetical. :)
He is saying he has three wives

Hyper pretty much nailed it

Nevertheless we may not have as many polygamy marriages but we shall have a lot of infidelity also I don't how our generation will be when we hit a midlife crisis.

One thing is for sure this practice will always be with us

Polygamy is another meaningless bullshid that allows a man to have women as no more then a property. It doesn't matter if arab or white man says, but the difference is that a white man does not use his religion to justify it.

There are more women than men in the world. On top of that men die at a much more higher rate than women due to wars. Now, why can't women understand if some of us don't give love to more than one woman (like my father and my grandfather and my great grandfather and my great great grandfather etc did) then so many of your fellow womenfolk will be left without a man? The unfortunate woman who is left without a man could be one of you...think about it.

that's fine. Your assuming that all women want to get married. As time goes on your going to meet many that don't care for marriage or children.
Beside, I am not willing to settle. If im not getting what I want in the relationship (love, security and faithfulness) then Ill accept singledom.

True, times have changed and with it we are seeing more and more guumeesyal nowadays. But come on, let's be realistic. You can't tell me be being a guumees with no children is better than being a co-wife to another woman, can you?

No, of course not
I will get married, have children, when the husband wants to marry someone else, get divorced. I will have my children and I can continue with my life.

And live happily ever after.

I don't see any women here going for that option to be honest. Unless they're from the Salafi sect{where it's hugely popular and more or less the norm} or they were brought up in Somalia. Other women will just cast their net a bit further.

Nothing wrong with it as long as it's the exception and all parties are genuinely happy with the arrangement.

Must say your thinking is not as bad I initially thought. I like your mindset of not wanting to settle for less than you deserve. Keep it up insha Allah you will get your good wishes.

I dont know if ur being sacrastic or not..I do not wish to be divorced. Obviously, I will let my conditions known before I get married. But at the end of the day, I will do what is best for me and will not let other peoples decisions and personal choices rule the rest of my life.
In sha Allah i will get the happy ending that I want and more.

The notion of having two wives seems too much at the moment.

Although after 10 years of same old same old, I could imagine why a man would want to be adventurous. Especially if the religion gives a green light

Why would you assume that a woman would not get tired of same old after 10 years?

She had a live-in maid, whom my friend later married, which made for three wives, and, the last I heard, seven kids. These folks were all in their late twenties to middle thirties and they all got along well. I don't think polygamy was always just about the sex.
Did they all live in the same house?

ps LMAO@ marrying the maid. Wax ka fakado aya la waaye (not a single one got away)
