You cannogt ignore colonialism it destroyed the traditional structure because they put up opposition and replaced it with the current frankenstein monster. Most of africa has not recovered from colonialism, the wounds of colonialism have not healed and the current social and political structure that was created for them by the west and imposed on them is unable to function in a modern society.

The indhayar were smart and lucky, they did not oppose the west too much, they bent their knee and accepted servitude while they kept their traditional social and political structures. They were able to manouver their way out of colonialism with their entire society intact.

China and india were too big to destroy and would survive allot, but the states n west africa i was talking about were small enough to be affected.
Korea was larger and more unified than states like oyo.
Now i assume you are like me when i first discovered African history my somali racism clouded my judgment.
The truth is there were dozens of states far more sophisticated than what we had in somali lands by the time of colonization.
They were at least at the level of Ajuraan and Adaal but they lasted till the late 1800.
They were also one of the most urbanized places on earth before 1900.

My argument is just that. Why have they not been given opportunities and incentives to build great nations and societies? There's only so much that colonialism can be blamed for. I'm not knocking the african people but their leaders. But since their ldaders are also africans, you can't help but look at the people as the problem. Before colonialism africa was poor and backward and after colonialism they are even poorer and more backwards. I'm not disparaging other africans and I as a somali have no place to do so. I guess my point is that building great empires and nations, making scientific and technological advancements and enriching world culture is the basis of success and civilisation. The asians can put forward evidence to the claim, so can the europeans. Outside of Egypt, what african nation can make such a claim?
