Though they retreated after Somalia's heavy mobilization, the Ethiopians still claimed Balanbale and Goldogob as part of their territory until 1988 when Menguste and Barre signed the peace accord.
I agree with your standpoint.

No, you don't agree because you said they held it and Somalia never got it back when Balanbale is part of Galgaduud today and Goldogob is part of Mudug today.
Many of my relatives used to visit back and forth between Balanbale/Caabudwaaq and Mogadishu throughout the 80's. When were the Ethiopians in control??
Ethiopian could not be allowed to enter Somalia even by it's Soviet backer so their EXCUSE in 1982 was Balanbale and Goldogob (both on the border between the two countries and both settled by the Darod clan of Siad Barre...Balanbale by the Marehan Darod subclan of Barre and Goldogob by the Layl Kase Darod subclan) were actually demarcated wrongly on the international boundary recognized for Somalia.
It was their reason to say that is why this is not an invasion. But they didn't expect Somalia to mobilize that fast and that intensely so they retreated WHILE still claiming to own those towns in order they were not too harshly dealt with in the African Union and elsewhere.
In 1988, Menguste sheepishly gave up all illegitimate claims to the towns or vicinities within the international boundary of Somalia.

I dont agree with your point of view.
Siad Barre expelled Ethiopians and SSDF in 1982 but Ehiopians held parts of Somali territories. This is not a great victory, this is not a complete victory for Siad Barre. This a stalemate.
Siad Barre did not totally expel Ethiopians and SSDF from Somalia and after 1982 SSDF and Ethiopians maintained their attacks against Somalia and Somali Army can not do anything to stop these raids.

In deep despair, the president(Siad Barre) told one of the authors of this volume, "My country is being invade every day and there is nothing I can do about it"

Mengistu returned both towns to Siad Barre in 1988 as a gesture of good will but Siad Barre gave up his Ogaden claims in 1988,Somalia renounced its Ogaden claims in 1988.Somali army can never recover those two towns by force, they were returned to Somalia by Mengistu desire but Siad Barre had to resign Ogaden in 1988, Bad deal for Somalia.

Until late 1983, there were numerous clashes between Ethiopian and Somali units, especially near Balumbale and in the northwest around Hargeysa. However, the Somali forces were unable to dislodge the Ethiopians from Balumbale and Galdogob.

Marsin, I don't want to go down to your level but your people are happy slaves in 2 countries and have brought Kenya to occupy parts of Somalia. I can just picture the Ogaden slaves running ahead of the KDF ''master, master, I smell something master'' while being held on a long rope and shuffling on all fours in the jungle.
Your people have always been slaves looking for a master, whether its the Mad Mullah's son working for Haile Selassie or sending letters to the British Queen begging for help. Today we see both our roles, you working against Somali interests in every region, we working for our interests in OUR region.
Ps, You still have a chance allah gave you balls. Man up get your whole zombie tribe together and see if you can do something.
I think without another mans balls, you wouldn't last a day in your own home...
