Do all baatis shrink? macawiis?

The more washes, regardless of the material its made from, I've always noticed my macawiis' shrinks over time.

There are some macawiis that shrink. The ones Somalis call 'Sabar Hindi' don't shrink and they are the best ones. As for baati, they always shrink, but only the first time you wash them when they are new. After that, they are ok.

Don't ask me about baati but macawiis expands because it holds something that can expand.

Depends on the material used. If its the thick cotton, yes. If its a polyester blend NO. Of my dozen macawiis only the thick cotton ones have shrunk when left in the dryer. I have a macawiis addiction and collect them with my favorite being the one gifted to me by my ex when I worked in Somalia.

Apparently baati is made in Indonesia, who knew?

I've only ever gotten baati as presents
