Most of the people I work with (proffesional people) dont even have A-levels and they're doing the same job as myself (Alevels, undergrad & post grad degrees). The lack of higher education is not necessarily an impediment if you know where to look for jobs, how to 'apply' for those jobs and you're willing to work your way up.

Apprenticeships, professional qualifications, BTCs, NVQ's, gaining work experience are all valid ways to gain entry to a well paying, stable job in the professions.

But of course being a personable person with good work ethic and good communication skills is always a prerequisite.

Depends on the route you want to take really. Jas is right, you can become a lot more independent with BTEC and know what career path to choose. Business management, engineering etc is a common sector for many. A-levels prepare you for hellish exams though, November/Jan/March/June cramming exams. But if you want to go academic, do an IB. My younger sister is doing it and she finds it hard but they're better than A-levels no doubt.

Ultimately, the more self-discipline they can master at that age, the better their grades and the better their future prospects. I think BTEC gets unfair criticism and may be vastly underrated.

I read from a Guardian article a while back that A level students on average do better at university especially in their first year of study than BTEC and other vocational qualification holders. I can understand where you are coming from when you talk about self-discipline encouraged by BTEC courses but you should not ignore the amount of self-discipline and dedication required from a level students too. There is a good reason why almost all universities prefer A level qualification for academic courses such as medicine, engineering, economics or law.
None academic courses like say Music degree or art and design course, a BTEC education would be as good or even better suited than A levels. So it depends on what you want to do later i guess.

I don't know now but back then when I was a student BTEC was considered a waste of time.

There are of course different routes that people can and do take to gain entry to higher education and employment in the professions. But I wouldn't advise someone aspiring to go to university (especially a good university) to study a BTEC qualification because, as far as gaining entry to university is concerned, BTEC qualifications are seen as being of lesser difficulty and value than A-levels.

Your current vice president of pussyland has a degree on social work at university of east london.
hes probably the most educated out of the bunch...

u ppl even had free scholarships during msb times and yet u ppl still aint even educated. About 3/4 of dooros given scholarships ended up dropping out and not finishing but still come home pretending they're professore.

xirsi gaab with minimal education still can whoop the asses of those fake degree holders. That dropped out of uni but still maintain that professore title.
