Networking is more important than anything i guess. Know the right people and you could find yourself in the right places..

Technology is overlooked by many i've noticed...people who can do programming and coding are very powerful, they literally have their own language and communication, if you know about temporary contracts you know what i'm talking about 8-)

Temporary contracts in I.T while being self employed is the one, you can demand a payrise every 3 or 6 months. I know one guy at Virgin media who's on 34k within 2 years and he hasn't got a single gcse. You can also go food shopping at whosale stores for business customers and you can buy cheap gadgets from places like pcworldbusiness, he got me an ipad for about 150 pound less cause no v.a.t. Getting your foot through the door isn't easy though they mostly recruit those god damn asians.

I wouldn't advise university education, especially in the West. Not worth it. If you must study in the West, do 2-4 year college, out of your pocket, no loans. Also, consider vocational, apprenticeship and similar.

This simple mantra of getting a degree followed by a good living and good life is one of the biggest reasons people get depressed.

People rush to get a degree to fulfill this prophecy and are left in tatters when it becomes unfilled. There is so much more to life than a degree. Experience, social skills and networking can get further than a degree ever will. Somalis also aren't told the truth about the jobs markets as well in the West. If Jane and James are struggling to get a job in this market what about Abdi and Hamila?

Yes, getting a degree is extremely important. But so is self-development. One of the biggest pitfalls is Somalis with degrees but with poor social and networking skills.

Not going to university. I have little to spend on a mountain of a fee, and I am not taking a loan sends me into a decade or two in debt.
