Sweetie, You are absolutely right in that this might be a factor. But I think that's for the older Somalis. How often do Somali guys under 30 think about gaining weight to look loaded? Do the youth in Europe think like this? Certainly not in America lol.

I think it's more just junk food and lack of exercise, naturally.

EvolSyawla wrote:How is that the case. If they have excellent content in their presentation you should appreciate it. I don't get it. A woman called out one of the presenters last night saying ok we get it, you speak English. Now speak in OUR language. And everyone fkng clapped. It was said in a very disrespectful way as well. Not everyone there speaks Somali, And I doubt people who present in English are trying to show off. Its an international event.

Best part is, someone complained that no one is presenting in Arabic and suddenly everyone got excited and applause like crazy. Confused ass Somalis . The hell are they on about? Arabic is not our language, no matter how much bleach Somalis use!
Oh no. My point was not my individual enjoyment. I meant the other 90% that speak predominately Somali.

Yes, I get it. International event. Perhaps I did miss the point, are we not catering for the people of Hargeisa? Hey, how's this- translator for the two caucasian photographers. Hurray (I kid, please don't growl)

Fair enough. But it is still more acceptable to turn up in hargeysa as a chubby guy than a skinny dude from the diaspora. Nobody ever says war wa maxay calooshu yet I always get wa maxay caatadu. Anway, I hope u find an obese millionaire in hargeysa.amen.

I was there at the first Somaliland book fair in 2009.i think it was called maxamad Mooge festival. I absolutely loved it. 70% of the people there were from the west. There were 3 sessions one in the morning another after lunch and one at night. Sahra Ahmad gaariye an hadraawi xudeydi kuluc were there. I met a stunning gashaanti from dk.

^ Yes, thats how this festival is now, daily itineraries beginning from the morning until 9:30pm. I'm glad they removed the name, actually. Hargeisa International Book Fair is more inclusive and I don't know.... less narcissistic? loll

Today's the last day of the seminars and presentations, although the bookstore will still be in effect tomorrow. I had a wonderful experience, very informative and met a lot of folks.

Salool, as usual, I enjoy your comments lol. Age related weight is one thing, I'm referring to the younger 'casanovas' who come to 'holla' with sweat beading down their foreheads in perfectly nice weather. Thank God the odeyaal don't hang around there except the private rooms lol

Meth, Yea food is horrible. we waited WAYYYYYY too long for cappuccinos. Again, it was social time so we weren't freaking out, but it became frustrating when hooyo's calling up your phone and you're insisting that you still haven't received your drinks lol

FYI to anyone going back home - particularly the boys:

 Please don't sit in public spaces beside offices (mine right now) cussing with your colorful, baggy skinny jeans, and OBEY fitteds (whatever the heck OBEY refers to) drawing attention to yourself. If you're daqan ciliis, please have some shame and assimilate - quickly... Oh my gosh. I should record the booq.

:wow:
