I already have a non somali name and an uncommon second name so its all good on the application forms till they actually see me
but to be fair its best to keep your somali names. You have a sense of identity, somali kids these days cant even speak their own language, imagine naming them something else, huge identity crisis. Even ppl back home will think your crazy, I knoe this oday who was born in suriname by a merchant father, called him carlos. Went back home and ppl thought he was nuts, got annoyed and changed it to nuur

Errr.... How about just pure Somali names? At least if you said that you would've made some sense. It would also help in preserving the unique Somali names.

I only made this thread to see you animals get offended and angry and show the gaalo who view this site how pathetic these animals really are.
If only you showed as much outrage to terrorism, FGM, tribalism, and all the other evil things going on in your communities. ... maybe you people wouldnt be in such a sad situation today. People are more outraged over naming a Somali child "John" than a Somali child being a victim of a Shabab bombing.

I have a Somali name that's difficult for others to pronounce and because of that, I made a promise to myself that I'll give my kids Western names.
AbdiJohnson's real name is like the most Somali name you can get

Give them easy names like yusuf-joseph,daud-david, yahya-john,sulieman-solomon,harun-aaron,yonis-jonah,zakaria-zachariah,yaqub-jacob,idris-enoch, nuh-noah.

I already f-king hate how arabs raped our identity , I do not think christian names would help bring it back either.
I'll call my kids Barni, Dhol, Arawello, Cambaro, Batula, etc for girls and Warsame, Sharmake, Barre or even Waaq e.t.c for boy
ill do my part in restoring our names even if its small and tiny.

I am thinking the opposite I am going to revive the hardcore Somali names like Daalmar, Sharmarke, Awesame, Guuled, Libaan, Cambaro-Luul- Ruun, Ardo, Waris, Ugaaso. A lot of my friends with children have abandoned the traditional Somali names and are instead choosing Arab names ...ain't nobody got time fo' dat! Or naming their children after Disney characters. Cajeeb weeyan.
