There is no consensual agreement in all of the studies done to say that MGM is something detrimental, the fact that you mention that along FGM which really is the problem is laughable. All followers of Abraham(a) who are men get circumcised, the prophets after abraham (as) were all circumcised and Somali males will continue to get circumcised. As for the age none of us in our family (males) got cut when we were infants, however between the ages 5-10.

With that being said no one disagrees with you're argument regarding FGM, it's your stupidity regarding this mythological 'MGM' lmao. :russ:

Male Genital Mutilation is just that: the mutilation of the male organ. Calling it mutilation is correct no matter what the reason given for the procedure. As stated in a previous post I do not equate FGM with MGM. I believe that cliterodectomy of baby girls is the worst type of genital mutilation. Baby boys also suffer tremendously especially without anesthesia. Is having blood vessels, erogenous nerve endings and muscle tissue along with skin cut not detrimental? What about the unnecessary pain and suffering? How about the long-term damage? The male is no longer whole. His manhood is disfigured. The prepuce is a hood of protection and the most pleasurable part of the penis.

Genital Mutilation is not mentioned in the Quran. Enlightened parents might protect their sons along with their daughters. I believe that the individual must be given a choice. After all it is his body. Not all followers of Ibrahim (AS) mutilate their children.

There should be no compulsion in religion. Normal behavior stands out clearly from error; so anyone who rejects the Arrogant ones and believes in God has grasped the Firmest Handle which will never break. God is Alert, Aware. The Cow Verse 256.

Good day, I have seen articles that tout genital mutilation as possibly reducing chances of getting HIV. I do not believe in this. They should be teaching people not to be promiscuous and to protect themselves. The MGM campaign is being stepped up in Africa. There are some men in Africa who think if they get mutilated they can go to prostitutes willy-nilly.

I believe most doctors from Europe, Asia, Australia, and Latin America would be appalled to learn about what is done to baby boys in North America. Most of the world does not mutilate their children. Routine Neonatal mutilation is not recommended by any major Medical Organization.

I have seen cruel videos of MGM but i support it nevertheless, its health benefits outweigh the negatives. The only benefits i have heard so far are reduction in sexual indulgence ( loss of nerve endings ), which is a weak argument.

Maalin wanaagsan, I believe parents mutilate their baby boys, young daughters and sons out of love and a sense of duty and culture. Some also erroneously believe that this is a compulsory order from Eebe. It is ignorance and shared trauma among families, clans, and cultures that forces people to mutilate their children. What is mind boggling is that even when there is severe pain and misery that is inflicted on these children, they grow up and some of them do the same to their children.

It is through education that people can be reasoned with. The insidious nature of genital mutilation is that it is done on unsuspecting and not consenting children. The greatest love a parent can show to their child, in my opinion, is protection. Education is the key. Females are being taught the harms of FGM. Males are also starting to wake up.

Male circumcision isn't necessary outside of faith obligation. The idea that it is dirty is a lie. Uncut males clean their foreskin and it is no big deal. Would you consider cleaning your ass in the shower a hassle? Also, an uncut penis is more sensitive to touch and is naturally lubricated, therefore, more pleasurable. These are all facts. In the US, it is a trend but it isn't popular anywhere else in the world that isn't Jewish or Muslim.

I got it done when I was 7.

If you were a baby boy, would you want to be strapped down and have your most sensitive and intimate part crushed, ripped and sliced without anesthesia for twenty minutes and more? No matter how you rationalize it the answer is no. The Creator Most High designed these parts for a purpose. These parts are not defects. I reiterate, genital mutilation is a life threatening procedure. Many children have died as result of this unnecessary mutilation.

Some males have too much of their skin cut resulting in curvature of the penis and difficult erections. Some babies have their glans (head of penis) cut off in botched circumcisions. These babies undergo sexual reassignment surgery and are given hormone therapy; thus being forced to live as a female for the rest of their lives. Some get infections. The Frenular artery is cut and sometimes children bleed to death. It is not a 'snip' and it is not 'just skin'!

It is shocking to me that people are discussing whether or not it is beneficial to gamble with another male's life and manhood.

Chapter Five: Post-operative Complications of Circumcision

The immediate postoperative complications of circumcision may be classified as urinary retention, meatitis, meatal ulceration, meatal stenosis, skin tags, adhesions, skin bridges, concealed penis, phimosis, and miscellaneous complications. These complications are iatrogenic.

Urinary Retention

Circumcision sometimes results in urinary retention [1] with possible obstructive uropathy. [2] Bandages used in ritual circumcision may cause urinary retention. [3,4] The plastic ring portion of the Plastibell® may also cause urinary retention, [5] which may result in a ruptured bladder, [6] renal failure, [7] or interruption of circulation in the lower extremities. [8,9] Urinary retention caused other complications that led to death in one reported case.[10] Urinary retention is not seen in non-circumcised intact boys.

Adhesions and Skin-Bridges

The first step in the genital cutting of newborn boys is separation of the inner surface of the foreskin from the glans penis, to which it is fused at birth. The tearing, which Gracely-Kilgore (1984) compared with “skinning a squirrel,” [11] leaves the surface of the glans penis and the inner lining of the foreskin raw. Newborn circumcision wounds are not sutured, so the residual foreskin heals wherever it falls. The residual foreskin may heal together with the glans penis, which results in adhesions that may form a skin bridge, [11,12] resulting in tethering. [1] Gracely-Kilgore reports that 15 percent of boys seen in her practice had adhesions and three percent required surgical correction. [11] Adhesions may require surgical separation by a urologic specialist. [13] Adhesions are not seen in non-circumcised intact boys.

Meatal Complications

Meatitis, meatal ulceration, and meatal stenosis are pathology only seen in circumcised boys who have been deprived of the protective foreskin. The connection between circumcision and these iatrogenic pathologies has been known at least since 1921. [14] The exposure of the unprotected glans penis to the ammoniacal diaper (nappie) is generally believed to be the cause of inflammation and ulceration. [14,15] Persad et al. (1995), however, have suggested that ischemia of the glans penis, caused by the severing of the frenular artery at circumcision, may be the etiologic factor. [16] The ulceration may eventually result in the formation of scar tissue, restricting the opening of the urethra. Leitch (1970) reported 8 cases of meatal ulcer and 3 cases of meatal stenosis in a series of 200 circumcisions for an incidence of 5.5 percent. [17] A meatotomy may be required to open the urethra. [18-19] Meatal complications are not seen in non-circumcised intact boys.

Urinary Tract Infection

Several studies find that more than 50 percent of urinary tract infections (UTI) occur within 12-14 days after ritual circumcision. [20-22].

Post-circumcision Phimosis

Oddly enough, circumcision, which is touted to prevent phimosis, actually causes phimosis. [22,23] When the circumcision scar forms beyond the glans penis, a phimotic ring results, causing phimosis. Blalock et al. (2003) reported an incidence of 2.9 percent in circumcised boys. [23] Leich reported that 11 out of 200 required recircumcision to correct post-circumcision phimosis. [17].

Inconspicuous Buried, Trapped, or Concealed Penis

This iatrogenic condition occurs secondary to circumcision. [24-30]. A second surgery usually is necessary to effect a repair. [28-30].

Keloid Formation

Keloids are an overgrowth of scar tissue. Keloids are reported after circumcision. [31-33]. They require surgical removal and repair. [31-33].

Circulation Problems, Ischemia, Necrosis, and Gangrene

Circumcision severs arteries and veins including the frenular artery that supplies the glans penis, [16] so it is not surprising that circulation problems are reported after circumcision. Gangrene of the penis, [34-36] and of the glans penis, [37,38] have been reported.

Miscellaneous Complications

Miscellaneous post-operative complications include chordee, [39] inclusion cysts, [40,41] lymphedema, [40,41] neuromas, [42] sub-cutaneous mass, [43] and cancer. [44].

The Holy Quran

Chapter: The Prostration, Verses 6 and 7. 6- That is the Knower of the unseen and the witnessed, the Exalted in Might, the Merciful, 7- Who perfected everything which He created and began the creation of man from clay.

Chapter: Women, Verse 40- God does not harm anything so much as an atom's weight: if a fine deed exists, He multiplies it and adds a splendid fee from Himself besides.

Chapter: Women, Verses 118 and 119. 118- God cursed him, and he said: "I shall take some of Your servants as a stipulated portion; 119- I will lead them astray and urge them on. I will order them to slit the ears on livestock and order them to alter what God has created". Anyone who adopts Satan as a patron instead of God has obviously lost out.

Chapter: Believers, Verse 62- We only assign a soul something it can cope with. Before Us lies a Book which speaks up for Truth; they will not be dealt with unjustly.

Chapter: Light, Verse 30, Tell believers to avert their glances and to guard their private parts; that is chaster for them. God is Informed about anything they may produce.

For the majority of cases there is no medical reason to mutilate a male (or female). The procedure is life threatening and irreversible.

With regard to involuntary male genital mutilation it is curious to note:
  • 1. The many reasons given to mutilate the male organ. Reasons include: to prevent masturbation (this was the original reason American and Australian physicians gave, as well as Jewish scholars); hygiene; some mutilated fathers want their boy(s) to look like them; some parents think their boy(s) will be teased in the locker room if he is intact; aesthetic/ cosmetic (some women like the appearance of a mutilated penis and so mutilate their baby boys); religious; social status; the ability to endure pain (in order to become a tribal warrior for example); cultural (a sense of being a member of a community); traditional (some societies don't consider a male with a prepuce to be a man even if he is 50 years of age); protection against HIV, cancer, etc.; myths and superstitions (a male is born with male and female parts, the female parts must be removed, the ancestors would curse a male who does not submit to genital mutilation); some societies believe a man can't engage in coitus if he is not mutilated; some people will not marry a person who was not mutilated; prevention of urinary tract infections (the mutilation exposes the raw glans and external urethral orifice of the infant to urine and feces in the diaper); and there are some in the armed forces who were forced to get mutilated.

    2. The mutilation is mainly done on unsuspecting infants, and children who are unable to give informed consent. The idea is to mutilate the male when he is young and vulnerable.
A fundamental question that needs to be asked is: Who's body is it?

If God created us perfectly. why remove something that is perfectly natural? Either God's hand is imperfect and humans have to fix his mistakes or we are not supposed to touch or mess with our reproductive organs. There is no mentiom of circumcision anywhere in the Quran. It is just stupid uncivilized tradition and the only reason WHO recommends it is because of the poor africans in sub saharan Africa to reduce HIV infection by a very very small rate (less than 20%) that is useless to a civilized person who knows how to protect himself. I am not touching my kids genitals!
