The couple should decide between themselves. I assume nowadays even if they plan to have many babies, they don't want them to be one after the other.

I am all for family planning.. Allah knows best and decides if and when children are conceived, but as with everything else in life, we are given the path and the will to choose, hopefully one that is pleasing to the will of Allah. So yes couples should discuss this, even before they are married, I feel this is worthwhile to find out your prospective spouse's view on family planing.

Zulaikha you sound religious, does it bother your conscience that you are for family planning as it goes against the belief that Allah is the provider and we should not really be maling such a choice as Muslims out of convenience?

You should do whatever the hell you like. Some like to live like rats, and have a batch of babies every few years. Others like to have a couple of kids and provide to them a higher standard of living, education, employment, future, etc.
