This story reminds me this guy from ATLANTA that was mental who was taken to hargeisa by his family. There was a wedding at the hotel panorama hotel. The girl was so young and was rajo. 3 days after the wedding day she confided in her girlfriends that the guy would hide under the bed every night. Word got to her father and her father called relatives in ATL to ask abt the guy and they told him to save his girl bc man was the local loco...father went over to his daughters house and chase the guy with a knife.

Until there is opportunity back home this trend will never change.

The dhaqan celis I saw in Hargeisa were so shameless playing with hearts. It's a stroke to the ego. The ugliest niggas can feel like Adonis with a Western passport.

Given our backward, clan-based and geel-jire mentality, I don't see that changing anytime soon (since such mindset can only be changed through revolutionary social change, imo) but I would rather see FGM uprooted and eradicated entirely ASAP. Get rid of that barbaric and brutal practice (which does the worst physical and emotional damage to our girls for life) and then educate the masses from the evils of marrying their young daughters to that old "qaraabo" (i.e., odayga jeebka qoyan. Not every old man gets a young girl, unless he's well off) man for exchange of money. But as I said early, priorities first. To me, no damage has ever been to our girls worse than FMG.

Any young men who gets merry back home is mainly due to mental sickness, has a criminal record, has deformities and got sick and tired of divorcing too many females and wants a traditional one ( one who obeys him)..

Old man that merry down there is due to pedo desires, sick and tired of the old hag that bore him the grown kids, and bc he was mistreated by his wife while they were in the west.

I agree with you. I will add education for girls; it all adds up to economic dependency. Education enables women to make money and not rely on losers.

FGM is not an issue in the major towns. I think this is an issue that needs to be tackled but I am concerned that FGM has become an academic/policy discourse in the west. All over the west, you will find somali women and other women preaching about the dangers of FGM. They are preaching to the wrong crowd. Most of these is not done in Somali and the motives are questionable. FGM has become big business in the west.

There are some good men and women who marry back home, Menance.

The worst thing that ever happened to our young girls are their jahiil parents. Educate the parents, sadly everyone has a privilege to become a parent, they need to know what's best for their daughters. The daughters will resent their parents, some of my grandmother's friends who are 70+ year old women, still talk about their young days, you can see resentment in their eyes. I feel sorry for the girls living in Africa. They're treated like properties. They have no choice. And to the old geezers who are taking advantage of these children yes I called them children, if they're under 18, she's a child, shame on them (the old geezers). They're ruining these young girl's lives. I want to build a house for the girls of Africa, when they run away from being married off to old geezers, they will have a safe place to stay. Insha'Allah.

You make some valid points. However, in most of the cases, the parents just want a good life for their daughters. Let us not forget that.

As long as the men are sincere the marriage is sanctioned by Allah(swt).
What others whisper is irrelevant.

^Let's be real, some of these parents don't care about the daughters well being, they just want money and some bragging stories.

Allah did not sanction lying and that is the point saaxib. There is no problem if the men/women were sincere and told the truth about their lives. But they do not do that. They inflate their history.

There, you hit the nail on the head. The first time I ever came across the issue of FGM was in 1996/7 when I read a book written by Raaqiya Omaar, I think (don't 100 % remember the author's name but it can be another Raaqiya) and to this day when that Pharaonic female circumcision is mentioned jirkaa i damqada, just remembering those painful stories related by the women interviewed by the author and the suffering they went/go through from the painful "operation" itself to the lack of hygiene from the tools used as well as during the recovering period. That's just the beginning. They talked about the hell they went through when menstruating and the horror of the first night of their wedding and then comes child-bearing when they have to be butchered and resown together again.

Dam it! Our women have it the worst, sxb.

"FGM is not a problem in towns," deluded. Making claims you have no proof of and are patently false.
