anyways i also studied English history from 1066 till present and trust me richard the Lionheart didnt suck he was one if the best for this country he ONLY lived in England i think 8 months out of his reign and still controlled his country imagine spending more time in France, he was brave and ferocious hence his name Lionheart... PLUS, his younger brother was the one who sucked, John, the church had more power then him come one he was subjected to the Magna Carta.... wat a crap King, and he had to pay money to his Bishops.. he really sucke.d

I am a history buff ever since the 5th grade.
I went to a british school so the emphasis was on European history, so we studied ancient greece and the Roman empire.
After that i realised that i dont know jack about Islamic History
so i immered myself in the History of the Islamic world.( My favorite period is the Eastern Persia, near the end of the 12th century, the period of Ibn Rushd, Omar Khayam and Nizam al mulk.
I always wondered why the events happned and why wars were won and losts, so naturaly you would go deeper and learn more about the culture of the period, the food and clothing , what was written.
By immersing yourself deeper into the period you will understand more.
For example in a historic battle, i would like to know the exact location of every part of the opposing armies, tactics, weaponary the strategy, the intrigue between the main charecters and relationships. All this is facisnating and paints a clearer picture of history.

Currently im interested in the Warring states period in china 400-200 BC before the unification by Chin-shi huang ti,
included the lives of the philosephers Confucius, Lao tzu, Men tzu,
as well as my favorites, the millitary strategists Sung pin and Suntzu.

its good to see that some1 of us like the past. and like they say " the future is a mere continuation of the past". i think world leaders can benefit a great deal if they look to the past for guidience, specially at a time like this when we're on the brink of having another crusade.

If you talk about history you have to talk about ibn Khaldun! He is the father of science/philosophy of history and sociology. He thought that just relaying events is a boring way of recording history and was the first to come up with theories that can predict the life of a civilisation. I'm in the last chapters of his most celebrated work Muqaddimah...great read!
