In fact we had it pretty good in many ways compared to others. Have you ever asked yourself which came first, the repression of the Isaaq by Siyaads regime or the creation of the SNM? SNM was created in 1981 and Hargaysa was bombed to the ground in 1988. There is cause and effect for everything. I am not excusing his actions, cuz i'll be the first to tell you that what he and his generals did to the north was evil and unforgivable. But you gotta think deeper about things bro, and not fall victim to simplistic and unsophisticated views on Somali politics and history. And I dont care for SNM, nor any of the other three letter rebel groups who plunged the country into chaos and made Somalis the laughing stock of the world.
How can you tell me for sure there was no deliberate targeting of isaaqs before SNM? The SNM formed because of the deliberate targeting of isaaqs if we had it so good there would be not SNM, you are not making any sense here. The only people who spout that shit are non-isaaqs who never experienced it, who try and downplay what really happened and you are just falling for their bullshit. It's revolting how an isaaq man is booty shaking in defense of people who tried to wipe us out.Your narrative is something that is unheard of from an isaaq man. I'm not going to debate somebody who can't even appreciate the brave mujahids(may allah reward them all) who gave there life to defend you and your family.

Tanker,

Afweyne died in a toilet and his rented house pillaged by Nigerians. He was humiliated like the Xaraami he is.

When it comes to Morgan, he's a dead man walking. I'm going to end that chapter myself.

Jugjug,

SNM was formed because of the killings of Isaaq nomads in K5 by the WSLF in the late 70s. Siyaad Barre, who armed the WSLF, ignored the calls of Isaaqs and this along with other grievances led to the formation of SNM. Xildiid already laid out all the evidence for you, and it's clear the late dictator had a huge chip on his shoulder against Isaaq and used state coffers to try to settle a tribal score. He will be asked by Allah (SWT) about his actions on the Day of Judgment.

His "literacy campaign " was being pushed by the soviets to further spread their socialist ideology. How else can you persuade an illiterate population to accept a foreign ideology. In hindsight this man had no accomplishments, somalia at the time was a pawn for the U.S.S.R. Naive somalis praise afweeyne for what the soviets did.

As Xildiid stated, the reports are clear about his blatant qabyaalad. People really want us to unite with them when they hold the greatest somali terrorist as a national hero. Phuk that...if someone praises siyaad barre I don't even wanna hear them out.

lol, Good question. It's not that I dont care about them. I respect Abiraxmaan Tuur and other SNM legends. It's just that, looking at the pititful situations of Somalis today, I just don't think the rebellion was worth it. I'll reply to the rest of you guys later.

Barre trusted in Soviet Union but he never expected that Russians would betray him and chose Mengistu as ally.

Muuse Biixi and Silaanyo both left for the SNM. Btw, muj. Muuse was a fighter pilot.

Any Isaaq who chose to stay with Afweyne despite the atrocities don't rank high in my book. They'll always be known as pussies.

Afweyne suffered from inferiority complex towards Isaaq. He felt humiliated in his early years by Isaaq general.

An Isaaq man had the right to leadership, ina cigaal was supposed to take the place of the assassinated president. Adiguna wasiirnimo baad ka sheekeyneysa.

We didn't take shit from afweeyne and that's why he was anti isaaq an called us arrogant. When isaaq elders tried to open dialogue with him about the grievances post '77 war, it fell upon deaf ears. Thus him and his supporters payed the consequences.

Yh bro, the coup was also orchestrated by the Soviet union who was in charge of the Somali army since 1961. It's not a secret that they killed the pro US Sharmaarke and they also planned to kill Cigaal.

From 1969-1977 it was Soviet advisers that ruled the country behind the curtains. When the Soviets switched side it was over for the Somali "Democratic" Republic.

Even during the 77 war the Soviets even wanted to invade the country in order to teach Afweyne a lesson but they did not want to humiliate the Somali civilians since the invading force would be predominantly Ethiopian. Some people say it was the US that stopped an invasion but the truth is Carter didn't have the guts and he would never go toe to toe with Soviet Union.

It's funny how people make propaganda for Afweyne and defend the crimes he committed.

Af weeyne tried to get everyone on his team. To the point that he even called Hadraawi to start a reform with him within the government, after this hadraawi left Mogadishu and joined snm in Ethiopia. Hadraawi speaks about this in one of his recent interviews

Barre had the opportunity to change the Somali history forever but he made several bad decisions: He undertimated Soviet Union will to help Mengistu.

He trusted James Carter words, that was a huge mistake, he never expected that Soviet Union would create a huge coalition against him but his main mistake was trusting in West support.

He forgot an important principle in OUA, the colonial borders of african countries can not be changed by force, then you can understand why so few african countries supported him in his adventure against Ethiopia.
