I think she thought it was ridiculous for them to think she was Turkish. The assertion was made given her poor grasp of af Somali. It seemed like she was humouring them. Not necessarily excited. - My opinion.

That was my initial thought as well, but after re watching that part it seemed like she was happy to be mistaken as a non somali, also the boys clearly meant it as a compliment at first. Although you may be right, it could just be about her accent or bad somali. Nonetheless I've seen this exact situation occur quite often in the somali community, they say "wow you don't look somali" and mean it as compliment. Quite sad really. Although it isn't a common occurrence amongst learned or western born somalis.

I have met people that thought the same way. I was born in the west myself. I have met a couple generation 1.5 and those that are foreign born with a complex. Many of which are highly educated. It's very sad. I think it has something to do with being from a fallen nation coupled by a low self-esteem. :lupe: The first time I witnessed it I genuinely asked someone if they were Somali, I already knew they were but I was making conversation. Then they said oh people normally mistake me for something else. Truthfully, I'd prefer to assume the best when it comes to the video.

Agree 100%. which is why so many of them claim other nations in hopes of getting their "lost reputation" back. They assume that if they are part arab or egyption or what have you, that they would be better off. They have this self hatred and self inflicted racism which is incredibly sad. but i agree, its best not to jump to conclusions, she was probably genuinely shocked by their response.
