Imagine if you are the first one to take the ayuuto round one, and lets say like weeks later you fail to contribute your share of ayuuto, then how will you be able to repay the money you have already taken?

also the fact that you get a lump of money if you're first in line. Better than a student loan that is for sure.Jugjugwacwac wrote:It's the accountability factor that makes a huge difference. I don't see why anyone wants to have their money kept by other people. Get an extra account and save your money there. Simple.

I'm sure Somali women have devised contingencies and punitive measures for such eventualities, such as getting the offender's tol to reimburse the ayuuto members and also naming and shaming the person within the Somali community.Vivacious wrote:Imagine if you are the first one to take the ayuuto round one, and lets say like weeks later you fail to contribute your share of ayuuto, then how will you be able to repay the money you have already taken?

But being the first also has its benefits, because it's like an interest free loan. Going first or last all depends on whether ur looking for a lumpsome of money asap or to save money.Vivacious wrote:Either be the last one or never participate in ayuuto.

Be the last one, then the first when in the second round, that way you get two lumps of money.Vivacious wrote:Either be the last one or never participate in ayuuto.

Bal ceebtaas fiiri
Adali, even if you take last in round one and take first in round 2, the question is the same. What happens in the event of failing to pay back the money?

Re: Ayuuto is the best thing ever.
somali xeer has many ways of law in forcing. if some one fail to pay or repay the hagbad. the hagbad manager must hold meeting with all the shareholders then members will make a decision collectively or individually depending on the stage of hagbad. usually shareholders are close friends or relatives or may be from the same subclan so they know your financial situation some are willing to give you flexible time to repay. but if you are stupid they will take the matter to your clan elders or your family. in somaliland the hagbad shareholders may go the local police station collectively and put you in jail until you pay. others prefer sharia courts and may open legal case against you if there is some dispute. others may kill you in fact a women was mutilated in hargeisa few months ago because of hagbad dispute.
