Indeed. I noticed you've been a member of this forum for 15 years. For 15 years, you've been logging in and out from this forum. What have you benefited, if any? [Assuming you have children], would you recommend your child/children to join this forum? Again, 15 years!

It doesn't mean that I've been posting weekly, monthly or even annually all these years. I knew absolutely nothing about Somali clans before joining...or the extent of the delinquency of Somali youths in the dayusbaro. I'm actually only back here because of recent events in Mogadishu and Garissa keeping me glued to social media because I'm going back home in a little while for research.

I can see the bullshit in that sentence from 15 years away.

Wallahi! I was a kid when I joined and because we never discussed clan at home, or with friends because it's CEEB, I never learned about it. To this day the adult Somalis I know are all well educated, so I still have no idea where the delinquents from this forum hide. You should have seen this forum 12-15 years ago, it was bedlam and qabiil was the only thing mentioned here. I kept reading until I found out about each major clan down to their sub clans. I thought I'd hear more about Al Shabaab but the guys who used to post from Somali websites and even find genuine Al Shabaab sources are all gone. If my age bothers you that much, don't worry, I'll be gone in a couple of days. Adios kiddo!

She made her account 13 years ago not 15 and that does not mean she logged in every day. She could have taken years off. Fadlan maskaxdaada isticmaal walaal.

He's not bothered....this is the way inadequate dysfunctional Somali's interact with the world...with hostility and ignorance.
Keep us updated on your research and musings.

The "Wallahi" part did not help you at all. Funny how every Somali says exactly what you said, 'we never discussed clan at home, or with friends because it's ceeb, I never learned about it". Coincidence? You tell me. Just like how every Somali that was born before 1991, would claim to have been born in Mogadishu. Anyways, I shall excuse myself, wouldn't want to interrupt your research now, would we.

Did you know about all the qabiils when you were a child? Even the one's that arent in your clan? Wallahi I learn something new each day...haye ii wad...you are an anomaly if you knew about other clans, where they mainly live, who they fought etc before adulthood. My parents wanted a good life for me and for me to make Somali and Muslim friends growing up, thankfully their wish was fulfilled alxamduliLaah. Do you not know that Somalis are actively involved in this type of research, either independently, for journalism, think tanks, aid agencies, governments including the Somali government? I'm not saying that I have money to burn through these statements...but alxamduliLaah I have interests kiddo and insha Allah I hope that whatever cloud aa ku saaraan inuu Ilaahey kaa fogeeyo. PS - Is wallahi something else to you? Would you rather I swore in English?

Did the delinquency part bother you? It's true. Somalis hide in the cloak of darkness to do bad things and its the same with qabyaalad, you'll never hear people mention their clan worries or attitudes to outsiders...this forum really exposes the bad in us.

I was just going by what you said. Allow me to refresh your memory, I'm sure with older age, comes with short-term memory loss. You said; "I knew absolutely nothing about somali clans before joining", again ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. Aid agencies? This type of research? Think Tanks? Somali Government? I honestly have no idea what you're on about. Wallahi means Wallahi to me. Usually and not at all times, adults and sometimes kids that are put in very uncomfortable situations tend to hide behind "Wallahi" when they want to legitimize a claim to someone.

@26June...Really nothing. I have so many relatives who are half another clan, or who are technically another clan that it was just taboo. Imagine teaching kids about qabiil wars only for auntie so and so and her husband to come over? How can you silence a child with such juicy beef in the air lol
Somalis are always doing research...usually for pennies and no kudos. What do you think this Ugaasadda chick is really in Somalia for? She's an ethnographer. What do you think the #cadaanstudies post on this site was about? Prof. Samatar is an academic who holds talks on Somalias, there are Somali researchers working for the BBC and Al Jazeera and foreign governments. Maybe you need to get active in Somali affairs.
PS- its always uncomfortable to be called a liar.

the youths in Mogadishu are into shisha as much as the Somali youths in London are. You would be surprised. The flavours are less than a buck and the hookah is sold in the suuqs.
North to South, you will find shisha bars, and the main clientele are non other than the local youths.

What a shame....we have a mainly young population...no education...now shiisha = premature deaths. Who will raise their children? Now I wish they never bothered with 'development' just water and food security. One dollar...that's a lot. It means they are sharing and spreading disease and even burning it to the end. Caku nicotine! I'd rather they were getting high...then they'd have a chance of changing lifestyle. Arabs made this thing seem halal to them.
