We Need A Somali Revolution!

It's clear that Somalia and the Somali people, all over the world, have hit rock bottom. Usually when a situation becomes so bad and people realize they have nothing to lose they become emboldened and decide to act. When will Somalis reach this breaking point? I think we already have, and that the conditions are ripe for a dramatic shift in Somali affairs, but there's only one thing missing; a visionary leader. The masses of any society are utterly confused, easily led and easily fooled and cannot be relied upon to effect any meaningful change. They need a guide, a beacon, a pillar of hope, a man (and yes, I said man) who embodies the higher ideals that inspire and animate the human soul and imagination. Change has to be top-down and is the moral responsibility of the elite. We don't need to focus on ridding the common Somali of clannism, because frankly the masses don't matter. We just need enough patriotic Somalis elites who have subdued their clannish predilictions and are willing to die for their counttry and people. And when I say die, I mean to literally die.

The leader will emerge from this group of elites, and the rest will serve to refine and implement his vision for the nation. If today out of nowhere a Somali emerged with the erudition, moral integrity and testicular fortitude of Malcolm X, wallahi I believe amisom, al-shabaab and the mooryaans in villa Somalia would all be sent packing within a few weeks after the people rise up having been inspired by their leader, ushering in a new era of true Soomaalinimo and strong governance. This may sound idealistic, especially for a cynic like myself, but i'm convinced that our problem isnt clannism but instead a crisis of leadership. Will the Somali Malcolm please stand up? We're desperate out here.

A person of true integrity won't have his character corupted by power, but he may bend the rules a bit not out of self-interest but out of pragmatism and realpolitik.
