Theyuusuf, if corruption is eliminated people will vote on issues because their personal incentive changes. As long as there is a prospect for corruption, clanism thrives because individuals figure out that they are better off voting for their clan's men who in turn will reward them with undeserved positions and money.

I agree. but in reality most people vote for parties not because they expect to get something from their clan's men but there are many other reasons including 1. popularity. most people usually rally behind the strongest and the most popular party in their particular region or nationwide. even if there are no many members from their clan in the party. this phenomenal exists even in the developed world.
2. if one of your clansmen is runnig for a political position there is no reason to not vote for him because his opponents have no different option for you at all today. thats why I suggested all somaliland parties must have manifesto to at least offer something different from the other.
corruption can not be eliminated but it can be controlled by simply increasing wages and selecting the right team. corruption is caused by greed or poverty you need to address both issues to find the solution. if you have low paid sivil servants you can't say why are they stealing. the head of state should appoint fair and clean ministers and the people should elect their best representatives, most importantly the head of state must be clean himself.

Democracy and Somalis don't mix. We are too poor, too ignorant and too clan-minded. Democracy only works in rich nations with a large educated middle-class e.g. Britain.

not all somalis.
Its a well established fact that reer galbeed are more civilized than their wild cuzs from the wild east.
Its only the eastenders that need to be tough about democracy and its merit.

People in industrialised counties have the leisurely to debate important issues such as alternative policies on the economy, social issues and foreign policy options because corruption is not a big issue to begin with. We in SL need to sort out corruption and judicial injustice first before we start debating anything else.
Well said .
Corruption of the mind is an everyday fight .
