I forgot the whole story but that's the parts I remember.

Idman, your ayeeyo and dad are
I encountered Cigaal and other stories when I was an adult.
When I was a kid, we were not allowed to read/learn stories about Somali(s) in schools. My dad taught me the history of Somalis(a) but I was under strict rules never to mention them in school. I remember being expelled from school several times because my tongue slipped.

Re: 5 things a foreigner learned from Cigaal Shidaad
Lama: why weren't you allowed to speak about Somalia in school? What kind school have you went to? I remember my 8th grade project, it was social studies class, I invited my dad to speak about good ole Somalia. He went all out, brought pictures about the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s, Somalia's map, traditional clothes pictures, he even brought the white cloth somali men used to wear.
I remember all my class mates look, they were all interested in, they all had questions, I didn't do anything on that project, all I did was introduce him and I still got an A.

Re: 5 things a foreigner learned from Cigaal Shidaad
Here's a story that I vaguely remember being narrated to me as a kid.
Once when Cigaal Shiidaad was travelling with some men, a lion attacked the sheep they were herding. It was late at night and Cigaal refused to go with the other men to kill the lion. They left him, killed the lion and then tied the lion's skin/corpse (can't remember which) to Cigaal.
The following morning Cigaal woke up, and found a lion next to him. He jumped up and ran for his life, after a couple of miles he realised it was just a dead lion tied to his leg with a rope and that he wasn't being chased. He came back to the camp feeling euphoric since this was a great opportunity for him to portray his 'raganimo'.
He told the men, he killed the lion that ate some of their livestock the previous night. Little did he know, that he was being pranked.
