Tbh people who deserve it should get free housing. Like some people can't work and pay rent or afford to buy homes. But some people take advantage of generosity and ask for free housing when there is nothing wrong with them. I honestly can't stand these type of people.

The story is fake. I live in Ohio and did not hear it. Besides, based on the community size, Ohio has the largest Somali entrepreneurs compare to anywhere else in America. You would fine people who are in construction, healthcare, and other forms of businesses.

1. Economic Contribution:

Somalis buy goods and services from local businesses to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars annually. They buy properties, cars, trucks, businesses and other commodities. All these businesses and individual employees pay federal, state and local taxes on their incomes and on the commodities they purchase.
How do Somalis get all the money for starting these businesses you may ask! Somalis use an effective method of wealth accumulation which is compatible with their faith and culture. According to their Islamic faith, it is not allowed to charge or pay interest on money. If they borrow money, they are expected to pay back the same amount without incurring any interest. This facilitates investment and creation of new businesses.
Money is usually borrowed from friends or raised in aan effective Somali system that pools resources together known as “Ayuuto” or “Shaloongo” where a number of people, usually 10-15, save a portion of their incomes every month or every pay period. For example, if each of the 15 individuals saves $500, the total amount becomes $7,500 which is given to one person who is ready to start business or invest the money. The process goes on for 15 months until everyone of the group gets paid $7,500. If this group wants to start a business together, they can raise $112,500 in fifteen months to start a business!

2. Professional Contribution:
There are Somali doctors, nurses, lawyers, economists, engineers, architects, computer professionals, teachers, and entrepreneurs. Columbus is home for the leading minds of Somalia including the family of Somalia’s longest serving president, cabinet ministers, state governors, ambassadors/diplomats, professors, business tycoons and civil service employees. These people transfer knowledge and skills and inject it into the local economy.
Somalis are very hardworking and industrious people. Most young men and women work more than one job, run or co-own businesses and go to school! All this is positive for the economy.

She works in a hospital and pays the market rate. However, when she loses her job and is collecting an unemployment, they reduce the rent to 30% of her income.

The reason why Somalis are applying those houses is not because of low-income housing. Truth is, Somalis love to be near to each other, and overwhelming majorities of the Somalis there are older folks and married or single-mom ladies. They help each other where they baby-sit for each other's kids. If a single-mom lady gets sick, you have the nearby Somali ladies coming to the rescue and helping her and the kids out.

I've been informed the apartments in this apartment complex are much newer, cleaner, and have security at night; the shopping centers and grocery stores are very near; and just few hundred yards distance, you have Gahanna school system which is near there. Additionally, there is a chartered school that is near that area where majority of the students in that school are Somalis. Therefore, new arrivals, single-moms, and older couples want to be near where Somalis congregate the most.

Finally, there is no specific Somali clan who dominates the new arrivals nor the ones already there. You will find all Somalis there. So to some of the punks who are calling Columbus a particular Somali city name, quit it guys, Columbus, Ohio is a mix of all Somalis.

Columbus is quite possibly one of the best Somali diaspora communities out there.

Negligible Somali crime, no Somali gangs, relatively high (Somali speaking) high school graduation rates, high college enrollment rates, multitude of Somali businesses with Somalis basically revitalizing the North Side after white flight and the niggers moving up north, community just purchased a giant ex-mall for a couple mill, literally dozens of millionaires via dealerships, healthcare businesses, daycares etc., dozen or so Somali doctors & dentists, thousands of Somali business that employ thousands of Somalis helping to shield the first generation from any potential employment discrimination, until recently no terrorists trying to run off to the ME, negligible Somali chicks running around with ajanabis, thots are well known and definitely not getting wifed by some miskeen, small town mentality which encourages (I can't believe I'm using this as a positive) a conservative lifestyle and inhibits behavior that would lead to ostracization, and a host of other things that make Columbus a pretty f-king based place to raise your kids.

Unfortunately, we do share a few things with other diaspora communities that I wish would go away:

1) Beardos, akhis, and Arab bootyclapping- I hate these motherfuckers with every fiber of my being. Somali kids born and bred in the West who will proudly wear a f-king dishdasha at the mall but recoil with horror at the idea of wearing traditional Somali dress. "Sisters" wearing mobile f-king tents and sometimes going full ninja despite the fact that no Arab, whose desert lifestyle literally depended on keeping sand out of your face, would never be caught dead in anything but normal American clothes.

Dugsis where they teach kids the intricacies of the Arabic language but a significant portion of kids can't ask for directions to the bathroom in af-Soomaali. Kids who know where Sham is but haven't a clue where Mudug is. Raising tens of thousands for new mosques when that money could go towards setting up after school programs and hiring tutors to help kids learn shit. Pro-Palestine rallies with thousands of Somalis but maybe a few hundred showing up for a pro-Somali rally.

2) Addiction to free shit and greed- So many "people" who can easily afford to move out of low income areas but choose to stay because they're saving a few hundred bucks a month. Meanwhile, their kid becomes an ebonics speaking akhi at best, and an outright adoon at worst. Every time you drive through these shitty neighborhoods, every Somali family has a gleaming 2015 Camry or whatever sitting in the driveway, while their kid goes to an inner city school learning about slavery and Martin f-king Luther King all day and not much else. The dads are off to Nairobi every other week to marry some impoverished teenager while hooyada is apparently a single mother. I can't for the life of me understand why someone who is probably earning decent money would voluntarily choose to live like that, but it seems to be a common thing wherever Somalis are.

But as I've said before, the Somalis here are damn lucky that I am one them---I've probably raised our collective IQ by at least one standard deviation.
