Assad should've peacefully left when he had the chance and saved his country the trouble and the destruction it's going through. Should've stepped down like all other Arab dictators in the middle east.
Muslims, Jews and Christians alike lived side by side under Assad peacefully. If you're against dictatorships than practice what you preach and start off with the Ibn Saud family, ruling what's known as "Kingdom of Saudi Arabia" since the 1920s.

Sure he's still standing, but at what cost though? Is 300k dead, millions displaced, thousands more dying in Libya and n Europe worth it? I think not.

He should've peacefully stepped down and swallowed his pride.

Do you know the definition of ideology horta?

These fools committed even cultural genocide; destruction of ancient Syria and Iraqi artifacts, thousands of books and manuscripts in Mosul libraries and thousands of Syria's and Iraq's cultural heritage.
These terrorists are taken to israel hospitals and get treated. Besides 99% of their victims are Muslim.

Actually the Syrian Government is not dying for an ideology. They are not dying for "secularism" or "baathism". In their entire rule they didn't implement one aspect of their baathist ideology. The Alawaites prior to colonization were persecuted and exiled into the mountains by sunnis and were under siege the same way Gaza is under siege by Israelis. The same way ISIS exiled the Yazidis to Sinjar Mountain and had it under siege (there might be people trapped there still). The Alawites are dying to remain in control of power because they fear they will inevitably be persecuted from their homeland if they were to remain powerless based on the history of ethnic/religious minorities in the middle east. This is why the notion of Bashar stepping down peacefully is an irrelevant point. This is a point that has been largely ignored by the media. The only person to ever bring up the Alawites dilemma as I just described it was the King of Jordan; when he sat down and did an interview with a western news network, if memory serves me correctly I think it was the BBC with Charlie Rose. The Alawaites plan is not to rule Greater Syria, its to succeed from the rest of syria and create a homeland for themselves.

Though this is not an excuse for what has happened. This post is just to play devil's advocate and bring another perspective to the table.

To create power vacuum or to handover country to beheaders?
When first demonstrations started in 2011, what is suppose to be peaceful demonstrators, the main media never reported truth but only how the government responded but never reported who killed over houndred police for the first month and who hijacked the peaceful protest?

I'm always Amazed by the people who cry "democracy in Syria," but seem to ignore the same "democracy in Saudi Arabia." Democracy is not about electing people. Libya is now ruled by a democracy, and so is Iraq.

Furthermore, those "democrats" who complain about leaders staying too long in office, or about "corrupt leaders clinging to power" never see that the Queen of England has ruled the British Kingdom undemocratically for 50 years. They never see that there are plenty of western countries where leaders vie for more that three terms/10 years.

BeyondQabiil, stay on topic, the thread isn't about Saudi Arabia or anywhere else, but about Syria where over 300k have died so far.

Saudi Arabia does have its problems, but u can't compare the two.

Are you denying Saudi role in fueling sectarianism in the region?

There are two or three SNet members who have lived in Syria. Sahal, the dhabayaco kid and some other dude i forgot his name.

No one wants Bashar Al Asad. He is a dictator who kills his own people.

If he is a man and nin rag ah, he would step down and save his own people anymore trouble than they already had.

Russia would probably propp up the regime for another 5yrs and see to it Syria is destroyed.

Macangignamada ma fiicno. Dadka hadii eey kurabin, u leave. Simple as that.
