Simplyserene, there is something innocent and pristine about you...like someone who hasn't been tainted by the ugliness of this world. You must be quite young, and I don't mean that disparagingly.
I used to be like that too, but now i'm plagued by cynicism and qalbi-adayg lol. But that's only because I've realized qalbi-adayg is for the greater good, and the bubble-gum and strawberry outlook on life is naive and shortsighted. I don't mean to burst ur bubble, but it's the truth.

I live in Canada and it's more of a mixed economy, depending on which province you live in.SimplySerene wrote:So you can't have any Socialism. At all?Kaafiye wrote:
Dude, socialism has failed even in countries where it was supposed to work. Just look at the disaster that exists in Eastern Europe and Venezuela. People in Venezuela can't even have access to basic consumer goods, like soap and toilet paper. And you want to tell me that socialism is good for the common man? France and Italy are perfect examples of what socialism does to a prosperous nation. Those two countries are now suffering economically and their youth are all unemployed.
Go and visit Italy. Their taxes are sky-high, it's extremely difficult to open up a business, and the unemployment amongst the youth is very high as well. Socialists pretend to care about the plight of the common man, but the results of their policies ALWAYS lead to disaster. Every single time.
Do you live in Canada?
I think I have experience living in cities from all three parties. At least I think i have enough experience. Maybe more experience with 2. Conservative and Liberal
Kaafiye- Please answer this question. Will socialism with balance help you more if you end up sick or will the alternative you are suggesting help more? If the alternative you are suggesting is better I will honestly look it up. If I find that you are right I will change my opinion to your side.
No one is against assisting the poor and disabled. Of course I believe that society should give assistance to those who are widows, the orphans, the disabled, and those who need help the most. There definitely should be a basic social safety net to help the miskeen people in our society. Both Liberals and Conservatives agree on this.
But what I'm against is socialism. And socialism is the belief that the Government should make economic decisions on behalf of the people. Things such as price controls, extremely high taxation, and excessively high regulations is dangerous for an economy. Just look at what's going on in Venezuela and you'll see how socialism absolutely wrecks a country's economy.
Compare Venezuela to Chile. Chile is a free-market economy and it's the richest nation in South America. Chile is the easiest country to do business in, their taxation is reasonable, corruption is low, the poverty rate is very low, and there exists a basic social safety net to assist those who are impoverished. My brother was in Chile recently and he even said the country was wonderful and a great example of how a free-market capitalist nation should function.

I don't really know anything about Venezuela. Is the socialism more extreme there then the NDP party here in Canada? Maybe that's the problem. Canada can learn from Venezuela and not go to the extreme Socialsim where it destory's a country.
Is free-market economy, like Chile, better in helping those who in the most need or is the NDP party a better solution them?

I am not that young. You would be surprised.Jugjugwacwac wrote:Simplyserene, there is something innocent and pristine about you...like someone who hasn't been tainted by the ugliness of this world. You must be quite young, and I don't mean that disparagingly.

But i still consider myself young
Re: Wth Alberta lol
The poor always do better in countries where the free-market is allowed to function. Hence why a poor person in Chile is doing far better than a poor person in Venezuela.SimplySerene wrote:I don't really anything about Venezuela. The Liberals believe in giving a man a fish. The Conservatives believe in TEACHING a man how to fish. A society should have a system where the Government takes care of certain tasks, such as maintaining a military, police force, judicial system, education funding, and a basic social safety net to assist those who are needy.

I'm an NDP supporter, but because the Tories have a chokehold on my riding, I'm voting Liberals to make sure the kilaab Harper doesn't win again

I will google free-market economy.
So I remaining an NDP for now. But I still google free-market economy. But i don't honestly think I my opinion will change. If it does I will try to remember to come back to this thread.
Cool discussion.
From my experience. The conservatives are the worst of the three, then Liberals, but NDP seems pretty okay. I saw how the Conservatives and Liberals would fail to help. I saw more opportunities available with NDP.The Liberals believe in giving a man a fish. The Conservatives believe in TEACHING a man how to fish

Federal politics is nothing like provincial politics. I can't stand Harper either, but don't conflate provincial politics with federal politics.Methylamine wrote:SimplySereneI'm an NDP supporter, but because the Tories have a chokehold on my riding, I'm voting Liberals to make sure the kilaab Harper doesn't win again

Vote NDP. I wasted my first 2 votes on Liberals with the same line of thinking. I didn't want conservatives to win. Lots of people do that. It needs to stop. Vote for the one you think is best for yourself and everyone.Methylamine wrote:SimplySereneI'm an NDP supporter, but because the Tories have a chokehold on my riding, I'm voting Liberals to make sure the kilaab Harper doesn't win again

Dude, have you ever read Ibn Khaldun? He was a great Muslim author who also said the exact same thing as me, that free markets raise the standard of living and is beneficial to society and the common man.grandpakhalif wrote:Voting is haram, only Allah is our legislator
