At least when Abdullahi Yusuf(aun) was President of the TFG, the state and people were behind him and his goal to move the government to Mogadishu. Puntland nearly went bankrupt when they were financing the TFG. We live in another time now and no one will just sign up to the SNA to be placed god-knows-where.

Basically, you're saying, "Damn if you do, damn if you don't", right? If Puntland wants to be a Federal State under a Federal Government from Mogadishu, then it must comply with the Federal Charter, no? It seems to me that the idea behind Puntland's establishment was really self-determination and full autonomy for the people of Puntland. But, Puntland's 1998 focus has been shifted over the years, no? Anyhow, a mix clan-based "National" or "Federal" Army is in the works, however, there is only 3 full States in Somalia at the moment; Puntland, Somaliland and Jubaland. If a mulit-clan based Somali army has to be formed today, it would only be Puntland and Jubaland (both mainly Daarood), Somaliland will definitely decline. So, we're back at square one. Mogadishu will have the authority to control few thousand boys from your clan and place them where ever they see fit.

Sooner or later, AMISOM will be deployed in the border between Somaliland and Puntland (Where ever that border may be). The question is, if I may ask you Buuranbur, where do you think is the true border between Puntland and Somaliland? Are the Daarood areas of Sool, Sanaag and Togdheer part of Puntland? Should it be part of Puntland? Do you think Puntland would be in a better position without Dhulbahante and Warsangeli? Will the upcoming Gaalkacyo grand conference change anything on the status quo?

Man, so many questions to ask.

The border regions = the disputed area between SL & PL. I see Puntland as the border stated in the Puntland constitution but I also believe in self-determination for all Somalis so if the clans in those regions want to form a state that meets the requirements of the Federal constitution, I would be all for it. How realistic is this though? They need, at minimum, all of Sool & Sanaag to meet this requirement and that is not feasible.

AMISOM's mandate is not to secure Somalia's borders and participate in clan battles, but to fight terrorism. Most of the terrorist attacks are concentrated in Bari ( Galgala/Bosaso) and Mudug ( Galkacyo) so why would AMISOM be deployed in Sool, Sanaag and Cayn? The whole thing doesn't make much sense. And, like you said, if Mogadishu were to have its way most of the current SNA recruits would be predominately Darood. This is precisely why I don't see this ( AMISOM deployment or 3,000 PLers joining the SNA) happening. No way would the elders or the people allow themselves to be duped into something as ridiculous as this.

It is naive to think the Galkacyo conference will change much. There are two options: the clans in Sool, Sanaag and Cayn would reunite and completely support Puntland or they join Somaliland. States like Khatuumo and Maakhir do not meet the requirement to be considered a Federal state, so it's up to the Harti in the regions to pick a side. Regardless of the outcome, the SNA or AMISOM deployment should not be allowed in Northern Somalia.

Naturally, not to mention seeing a high (mirqaan) population with guns.

Arming conscripts is not something I was referring to immediately, but after the necessary training and organization is implemented. I doubt that this would be any less than 10 years from now. Most likely too late, from the rate of AMISOM's mobilization.

geopolitically galgala is going to be major inter continental issue. alshabaab is very much interested bosaso than ever before and there will definitely be collaboration between the jihadis in yemen and those based in galgala, if the jihadis in yemen get the upper hand its big boost for those in galgala. abdi weli knows he could have financial problems next coming years because all east african port revenues are expected to decrease dramatically due the war in yemen and his only source of income is bosaso. so basically he may not able to finance his army domestically. he have 4 options

1. bring the amisom mercenaries
2. seek military fund from any where
3. recruit all mjs calashan daawanayaaw waa dalkaakii like the shias in iraq. or
4. make military and political alliance with somaliland against the upcoming jihadis.

the last option is simple and difficult at the same time. weaker puntland is good for somaliland at the other hand if puntland faces major religion related security issues its disaster for somaliland. should we support puntland against the jihadis in galgala or not ? thats big decision and we have to think about the consequences.

AMISOM is not coming to Puntland. The Members of Parliament will not allow it and the speaker of the Parliament has just spoken on the issue.

Puntland should do what it did in the 1990's to Al-Itixad. Basically give every able bodied man an AK and storm Galgala. When fighting Al-Itixad every man captured was excuted, there should be no prisoners. Hundreds may die; but Alshabab will be eliminated.

Cumar Maxamud are savages, they brought the Cisman Maxamud down to us gettin bossed around in Bosaso.

But the good thing is Al-Itixad kicked started Puntland, Bosaso port was re-opened, alot of the mosques and schools were built under their admin.

You cannot eliminate Al Shabaab by killing the foot soldiers only.
