Gedo

If the water is clean to drink it means that all nijas has been removed and therefore it is halal. It is psychological and not science. In Singapore, they have 3 water taps, normal, recycled and desalinated water. Most Somalis live in arid lands and the swamps or lakes and they use are heavily polluted with all kinds of nijas. Desalination plants cost billions of dollars to build and to run and we don't have that kind of money to turn seawater into drinking water.

They are already desalinating water in Mogadishu and other African cities, the industry just needs more investment. This poo machine is really cheap @ 1.5M USD...thats 800 people donating £1000.....water and electricity will save lives. I wonder of there is a way of storing electricity from this machine to use at a later time.

I've never heard a desalination plant that was constructed in Mogadishu, can you please point me to a link?

At the moment, the electricity generated through the waste is used by the machine itself and I don't think it could generate more power to go around. Though it is very expensive to install solar panels and construct sub-stations to generate massive public consumption electricity, it seems to be the only alternative available to a place like Somalia where the availability of solar energy is plenty. Temporarily, we can tap into the new Ethiopian hydro electricity supply if the price is right and later build our own.

As for the Singaporeans, actually, it is 4 different taps of water and they wanted to have water security.

In just five decades, Singapore has overcome water shortages despite its lack of natural water resources and pollution in its rivers.

Driven by a vision of what it takes to be sustainable in water, Singapore has been investing in research and technology. Today, the nation has built a robust, diversified and sustainable water supply from four different sources known as the Four National Taps (water from local catchment areas, imported water, reclaimed water known as NEWater and desalinated water).

By integrating the system and maximising the efficiency of each of the four taps, Singapore has ensured a stable, sustainable water supply capable of catering to the country’s continued growth.

Israelis planted an entire forest in the desert....they really are living their version of the American dream...with genocide comes...everything!

Machiavelli, actually, it can produce a lot of electricity enough to power 250 computers for 5 - 10 hours.

Singapore has a lot of money though. I'm talking small sustainable solutions which can be erected in the desert and supply 40,000 people with water. 86,000 litres of water a day (this machine can produce that much) can give 40, 000 people 2 litres a day. A family of 4 can get 8 litres...thats enough to not get dehydrated but not enough for washing, bathing, cooking and saving livestock... which is where groundwater restoration and rain harvesting comes in.

Original Dervish, yes, its sad...and its not even an internationally recognised one because we really kept this things between ourselves. Somalia is going to be a scary place to live in and I just want to make sure that people have the necessities for human dignity while they work it out.

Interesting topic and a coincidence I actually came across this earlier today:

Based on this, the correct analogy is that this principle may be applicable to all other impurities if they have gone through a process of change. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) removed the remains of the mushrikeen from the site of his mosque, but he did not remove the soil. And Allaah says of milk that it comes “from between excretions and blood” [al-Nahl 16:66]. The Muslims are unanimously agreed that if an animal eats impure things, but it is then detained and fed with pure things, its milk and meat become permissible. The same applies to crops and fruits: if they are watered with impure water, but are then watered with pure water, they become permissible, because of the change (istihaalah) in the impure thing, which becomes pure. The converse also applies: if the pure thing changes into something impure, then it becomes impure (naajis), like water, and food when it changes into urine and faeces. So how can the change affect it when good turns into bad, but not affect it when bad turns into good, and Allaah brings forth pure things from impure things and impure things from pure things?
