Udun, well it is true many senior high ranking members of Iraq's Republican Guard joined the Islamic State, they are only doing so because the safavid-us alliance purged them and did not allow their return. But the main leadership are core AQI members who disbanded and formed islamic state. These are not the Sahwat or Awakening brigrades funded by the US but those same insurgents who defeated America in 2007.
