I am interested in the post about Somali women, a very honest post indeed and I must say I am glad that you shed some light on this truth in particular as I believe it carries a huge significance, a community cannot be healthy without the women of that community being servile to their brothers, fathers, husbands, uncles, cousins etc.

Solutions:

1. Get rid of the clan-based States (Somaliland, Puntland, Jubbaland, South West, Galmudug, Central State, etc) and imprison all and every "politician" in support of the clan-based States.
2. Say no to "Federalism".
3. Grand conference between Somali tribal chiefs that are not compromised, resulting the formation of a central government.
4. Delegitimizing any one that claimed to be "President or Prime Minister" after Jaalle Muhammad Siyaad Barre. (Ali Mahdi, Umar Arte Galib, Aidid, Abdiqasam, Ali Khalif, Abdullahi Yusuf, Ali Maxamed Geedi, Salim Aliyow Ibrow, Nur Xassan Xussein, Adan Muhammad Nuur Madoobe, Sheikh Shariff, Umar Abdirashid Ali Sharmaarke, Abdiwahid Cilmi Gonjeh, Muhammad Abdullahi Farmaajo, Abdiweli Gaas, Hassan Sheikh, Abdiweli Sheikh, Abdi Farah Shirdoon, Abdirahman Faroole, Abdirahman Tur, Axmed Siilaanyo, Axmed Madoobe, Shariff Sakiin, Muhammad Ibrahim Cigaal, Qeybid, Riyaale, Cade Muse etc.)

Until we put an end to this defeated reality Somalis are in, we cannot restore the dignity we once had. All the Somali leaders, politicians and tribal chiefs are corrupted and have been compromised by the enemies of Somali unity.

The cold truth,

Somalis need to do some soul searching and come up with real solutions. A revolution is a must.

Cold hard truth. :(

Could you please clarify, what exactly you are referring to here? What aspects of Somali culture have been eradicated and what 'Arab culture' have we replaced with it? I often hear this and I am not sure I quite understand.

That’s because the primary concern of women is their well-being and the well-being of their offspring. The lofty ideals of loyalty to one’s country, culture and people is generally the preserve of men. Whenever something doesn’t serve women and fails them they bail, and in their eyes Somalia and Somali men have failed them. This is the nature of women, and they can’t be faulted for it. It’s the mens responsibility to make them proud believers again. (of course not all women are like this. Shout out to all the proud Somali queens out there :rose:)
I can see where they're coming from because they have been told that there's no place for them in Somalia/Somali culture. Somali women are forced to take one of two routes: 1) become a Salafi, wrap themselves in a bedsheet, change their name to Umm XYZ and busy themselves with Arab culture/politics/causes or 2) become a liberal who only eats organic food, drinks fairtrade coffee and fights for every POC cause under the sun. Both of these women have one thing in common: they want to change the social, cultural, and religious nature of Somalis. The only females who give a shit about Somalis are people like me, the qabiilists. We are a small but growing number who are committed to converting our sisters back to the truth. Viva la revolución! :blessed:

1. Somali music and dance have been deemed haram, leading to the impoverishing of the Somali arts scene. And we all know how important art is to culture and a peoples sense of place in this world. Instead we have people playing nasheeds and Arabic Music cuz it's 'halaal' for some reason.

2. Somali names are almost going extinct as Arab names are becoming in vogue amongst Somalis. And not just any Arab names, but Arab names that have no Islamic significance. Names like Cumar and Cali are understandable as these men were preeminent companions and Somalis have used such names for generations, but why name ur daughter Ruhaylah or ur son Muhiib. It's like an Arab naming their son Samatar and their daughter Filsan. Not to mention those Somalis who go by Abu so and so and umm so and so, instead of calling themselves ina hebel hebel like ur username.

3. The Somali language has been encroached upon by Arabic. Look at the signs and posters put up in any town in Somalia. They're mostly in Arabic and English, despite the fact that most Somalis speak neither of these languages.

4. Mixing between the sexes has been deemed haram, to the extent that important events like weddings cannot be enjoyed together as a family, with friends and with neighbours. This goes hand in hand with the exaggerated form of hijab mandated for women. This strict separation of the sexes and the overly large garments and hiding of the face fly in the face of Somali culture. We don't suffer from the perversions of the Arabs and their hyper-sexualized culture, so we don't need their extreme precautions.

These are just some examples I could think of. With all of that said, Somalis are Muslim at the end of the day and we have a beautiful conservative culture. So we should make sure our music is tasteful and not lude, that our women are dressed modestly and that people behave in a dignified manner at mixed events. But we don't need the Wahhabi police scrutinizing our every move, especially when none of their draconian demands are even Islamic but Arab Najdian culture masquerading as deen.

Thank you for the clarification. I see where you are coming from in points 1-3. What you mentioned about the Arabic nasheeds thing annoys me & and the random unpronouncable cultural Arab names young Somali couples name their children. I can't say I have not seen it.

I guess where I have the major problem is, when people leave off music altogether, when women opt to cover more as opposed to the filmsy guuntiino/see through dirac's women would wear pre-civil war Somalia and this is defined as an embracing of Arab culture. If certain elements of Somali culture are in contradiction to the spirit of our faith, we shouldn't cling to preserving them as ideals. In reality, culture isn't stagnant and is defined by the norms of the people at any given time.
