Is it true that Rumsfeld is desperately seeking an exist strategy ?
I am sure the violence will continue till the next presidential term and whoever comes after that should bring a convincing case to the table about the war in Iraq.
Just look the editorial page and letters from readers of any News paper today, You would be surprised of how Americans stand in opposition to the policies of their government.
Rice started to compare the war in Iraq with that of WW2, i swear
How anyone can conlcude that the Iraqi Sunnis are now in a position to win a conflict with the Shi'ites and Kurds is beyond me.
Yes...its beyond you....but you know nothing of Iraq and history, just like your superiors, and we will see when you guys are no longer the shoulders and the protectorate of them!!!!!!!!!!!
If you only had the guts to leave the sunnis(25%) to the rest(what??? 75%??)???????????????

Mad
Like Law mentioned above, America should pull out immediately out of Iraq. This is only a win-win situation for Iraqis and most Americans minus Neo-cons oil Barons.
Neo Con arguments:
This is the only time in the human history that we (the American Right) had a sole super-power politic leadership in the United States of America. The major stake holders of this group primarily agreed if they can't justify the existance of an enemy, then America can't exist as a sole superpower, no, not without without a percieved enemy. Mad Mac is their kind of soldier.
So, let us roll the film and capture the whole roller coaster drama.

Mowhawk its not that easy, the americans cannot pull out even if they want to.
The reprecussions are terrible.
Likely affects of a pull out.
1.) Massive civil war involving Iran,Syria, Isreal, Turkey and the rest of the nieghbours, it will be like the congo man.
2.) Iran and Isreal already have equal or more influence in iraq than the Americans.
3.)The Sunnis will be squeezed from the the north as the Kurds expand into Mosul, the shittes move north to secure Baghdad with its huge shiites population.
What the americans need to do is to negotiate with the responsible Sunni militants by using religous and clan/tribal leaders as go betweens.
they have to convince the Sunnis of a place in the future government.

What you don't understand is that professional soldiers around the world are all the same. Now I emphasize the world professional here. In places like Somalia, there was a gross shortage of professional soldiers, a large number of would be thugs. The result, the legitimae government of Somalia was overthrown by a thug. He then used thug tactics to run the country for 20 years, he was then overthrown by a collection of other wanne be soldiers who then tore the country apart.
Professional soldiers DO NOT MAKE POLICY. THEY DO NOT SEIZE POWER WHEN THINGS DON'T GO THEIR WAY. THEY DO NOT REFUSE ORDERS THEY DON'T LIKE.
I have served the Reagan administration, the first Bush administration, the Clinton administration and now the second Bush administration with the same degree of loyalty to each. I have participated in operations raning from those I fully agreed with (the first Gulf War) to those I thought were fool-hardy (the Haiti operation "Restore Democracy"). I am not the perfect soldier for "neo-Cons", I am the perfect soldier.

You exagerate the implications of the potential civil war, and you exagerate the influence Israel and Iran have in Iraq today, BUT, you are essentially correct that there would be a civil war with endless numbers of meddlers and actors complicating things. We (both the Americans and the Shi'ites) are trying to show Sunni leadership the light. But they are slow to understand their own peril.

You may add that the Kurds has their Shi'at & Suni population as well
But the over all picture is going to be a long civil war that will almost the big losers will the Sunnis.
The Saudis will use the Sunni insurgency to hold the shiat advances in its territory the east regions area where the main population are the long oppressed shiat by the House of Saud.
The main and may be the dominent factor in the future politic of Iraq are Turkey and Iran.
