There is no similarity between Shia and Sunni. They pray 3 times (combine Maghreb and Isha), they prostrate to a pebble as they rest their heads on the floor. Another difference is the position of their hands. Put too much emphasize on Ali and Hussein. They loathe Omar bin Khatib. There are other differences, minor, but differences nonetheless.

Who's we? Aren't you an Oromo from Ethiopia? I don't know why you're always butting into things that have nothing to do with you. Somalia is for Somalis, stick to your internal squabbles with the Amhara and the Tigre.

The consensus from Sunni scholars is the Zaydi Shia agree with Sunni aqeedah 90%. The Zaydi Shia does not loathe Khalid Omar Bin Kahttab (ra). In fact they follow the first 4 khalifs. However, they disagreed with Mu'awiya.

          • Zaydi Shia in Yemen
Question: The Houthi rebels in Yemen, currently under military bombardment by an Arab coalition led by Saudi Arabia, are followers of the Zaydi branch of Shia Islam. What do they believe, and how are they different from other Muslims?

Answer: The two main branches of Islam - Sunni and Shia - differ in their beliefs about political and spiritual leadership among other things. All Shia Muslims believe that the first leaders (imams) after the death of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) should have come from his household.

The majority of Shia Muslims are known as "twelvers," as they trace a line of 12 imams starting with Imam Ali, the Prophet Muhammad's son-in-law. They believe that these imams were divinely-inspired and infallible, following a direct father-son bloodline. They believe that the twelfth and final imam disappeared from earth and they are awaiting his return. Those who hold this belief form the majority of Shia Muslims, especially in Iran, Iraq, and Lebanon.

Zaydi, on the other hand, are named for Zayd, a grandson of Husain bin Ali. They reject many of the subsequent imams, reject the idea that imams are infallible, and reject the tenet that the imamate must pass from father to son. Many scholars indicate that these differences put them closer to Sunni Islam in their theology.

The Zaydi form a small minority of Shia Muslims, and today they are virtually all located in Yemen. For over 1,000 years, they held power in Yemen through a ruling dynasty that was overthrown barely 50 years ago.

Since the 1962 revolution which established a republic in Yemen, the Zaydi have continued to be integrated into local politics.

The Houthis are a smaller insurgency group of Zaydis that started out as a youth revival movement in the early 1990s. In recent years, they have been involved with further clashes with the central government. Not all Zaydis support them.

That shouldn't be funny, but coming from you and that display pic :damn:

As far as Somali Shias, I don't see an ethnic Somali or even Bantu Somali coming from a long line of Shias. I do believe cadcad could come from Shias.

From this thread on a website called shiachat.com, it seems like these are honest to goodness CONVERTS, they left sunni Islam for shia Islam.

salam.. my names Fatima Mohamed, I`m Somali Shia, I converted to Shia Islam several years ago and I realized that Shia conversion is solution and I am happy for that alhamdulilaah..

Salam, You got quite a story there. When I first heard about shiasm I asked one of my cousins what it was, LOL he replied ignorant people that don't nothing about islam haha...nd yu no how children work sometimes you tell dem to stay away from things they wanna know more about it...it just led me der..one day couple of my older cousins became shia and there was so much fuss in my family, and soon after everything settled down with all the arguements I started hearing more about shiasm. Moved in with them heard more and more, so me becoming a shia was more of an influence but it did take a bit of reading to decide that this was the right way for me and Alhamdulilah now I'm trying to hold tight to the rope of Allah SWT although sometimes I may go off track, but alhamdulilah Allah is most forgiving. Insha'Allah i pray more of somalis see the truth in the Ahlulbayt and board the ship of the True Islam.

This is what happens when you live in Shia central North London.

Anyways Shias are Muslims despite your protestations. They are allowed enmasse into Makkah for the Hajj pilgrimage stones & all. Someone mentioned how they combine Maghrib & Isha well guess what? Many Sunni mosques here do that when labadda salaado ay issa saaranyihiin. The stone thing is retarded at worst, hardly something ilaahay will fling them into jahannam for.

The no 1 thing that always bothered me about Shiasm is the taking away of the focus from Prophet Muhammed[pbuh]. I was watching some Shia video and this guy [british iraqi i believe] straightaway in the first few seconds starts talking about the Mahdi. The video ku muu saabsaneyn Mahdiga but yet 3alathoul 'ilaahayfarajkiisa a furro' etcetc. This is the greatest handicap of Shiasm, their veneration of the Prophet's family [pbut] from my observations exceeds what is appropriate or normal. The Prophet gets little mention in their lectures, but you will hear a lot about Fatima, Ali, Hussein & then Hussein's progeny even Hassan has been cast aside. Wuxuu dhalayna iskaba daa.

Have you ever hear "Shaanshi" in Xamarweyne, the 1st Benadiri people of Somalia. The "Shaanshi" are predominantly white skin people with no Arab blood in them. They are Persians who have arrived Somalia late 18 Century for commercial reasons and later have decided to stay. They are wealthy. Like all the other white skin groups in Somalia they consider the dark skin Somalis as savages and basically Inferior to them. For that reason even though they live and work in Somalia you are not likely to get the opportunity of socializing with any of them especially their women. They used to have their own Shia schools to teach their kids before Siyad Barre came to power and never mix with anyone. They still do but Siyad Barre gave them a bit of a cultural shock which they resisted very well to a certain limit. I am only trying to help

its funny you mention takfiri, ask a shia what they think about abu bakr, omar, and uthman. according to them they have all left the fold of islam. some even make takfeer of bilal ibn rabbah because they felt he didn't support Ali as 1st khilaafa.

I cannot figure out whether some of you are just trolling or you are this injudicious!!!!

There has been a substantial shia minority in Somalia. Merca, Barawe and Muqdisho (Shingani, Abdulaziz, Xamarweyne, Bilaajo, half of shibis) Christians (mainly in the north but there were thousands of Catholics in the south; the plantations and Xamar). Hindus (mainly Xamarweyne) and jews (Shingani) too lived in big cities. Today, either many of them have fled or hide their faiths.

I know many Christians, jews and shia’s from Somalia and I can confirm that they are the most patriotic somalis I have ever met. They live in the UK, USA and in some countries in Europe.

Regarding the “istunka”; this is a hedonic festivity that predates islam. The istunka and the dabshidka ( neyruus (nevrouz) festival to celebrate the onset of spring ( harvest time). IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE AJURAAN DYNASTY!

The dabshidka and istunka have everything to do with farming.
