if Turkey went towards nuclear energy in the 1980s/1990s, they would be in a better position today

Right now, they screwed themselves over by allowing all these ISIS/NUSRA/etc groups free reign by letting them come through the border with Syria to destabilize Assad and now its blowing back at them... plus they are at war with the Kurds again

I would not want to be in erdogans shoes rigth now,
too many strings pulling him, and too many wrong bets while betting big and doubling down everytime.

He should not have played poker but played Chess or GO.
Geopolitics is an unforgiving game, and it needs patience and control of the ego..

Erdogan should have kept up good relations with the kurds, he would have kept them as supporters.
He would have gained control over northern syria to protect the kurds, he should have chosen the kurds instead of ISIS.

Should have kept an independent line when playing the pipelines game,

a long line of should haves, could haves.

but we dont know the stresses he is under,
and we cannot imagine the pressure the US exerts over its vassals, or how much leeway they are given.
