There are two types of people I notice:

1) The reactionist; who doesn't see anything beyond what it appears to be.

2) The conspiracist; who believe everyone is out to get them.

The Somali government is not in a position to support Christmas in a country where they are fighting extreme elements that use everything against them. That is politics 101, xumaan mahaan.

Tan kale, if a private person hires a hall and wants to celebrate Christmas or New Year, it really is their perogrative and isn't insulting at all. They are celebrating what they deem to be the birthday of Prophet Isa (as), so there's no reason for us to start overreacting and thinking they're trying to change Somalis into Christians or what not.

good move, actually this has to be the best move this government had ever made..manshaa ALLAH, Amisom base or not hotel or motel the Somali "nation" is a muslim nation, and those celebrating it should go and do it else where (I know some of you will come after me Saying "ohh and what about Somalis who celebrate eid in non muslim countries". well you can't compare a country where 90 something of its population is muslim to a country with many faiths. so don't try that bull on me) if you celebrate xmas know that you are lying about Ciisa calayhi sallam, and making him God.. saying MERRY XMS Alone can make you a Kafir/kafira....Allahuma hal balaqtu..Assalamu Allaykum All.

The ban is for Somalis who want to celebrate it in the city.
We are Muslims and therefore forbidden to celebrate any festivals celebrated by non muslims.
who are those? somali gaalo or diaspora?

As for the OP: You created this thread on Somalinet knowing that it will be accessible on google search. Demonizing Somalia will not give Isaaq the recognition they've been wanting for over 25 years. Christians, Jews, Hindus, etc are all welcome in Somalia as much as Somali (Muslims) are welcome in Christian, Hindu countries. There is no compulsion in religion.

You do realise Christmas is a pagan Roman addition to Christianity and wasn't introduced until 300 years after Nabi Ise (AS) death?

I support this ban, its a big security risk, Christmas should only be celebrated in AMISOM camps

In our establishment, Kenyan workers were allowed to party without alcohol. They cooked themselves a dinner and exchanged gifts.
