Even though half of my family is from Ogadenia, anytime i need Amharic translation, I employ the services of our iidoor brother Awrastaale AKA Hawdiyan. All Amharic translators in Jigjiga are iidoor
In Jigjiga University which is a federally funded university, there is an entire specialization in Somali culture where you learn great Somali history contirubters such as Abshir Bacadle and Cismaan Geedi Raage. In the Secessionist enclave, if you are not iidoor, you are excluded.
:notsure:
How come Ogaden and other Ethiopian Somalis don't speak Amharic? Haile Selassie banned all ethnic languages and imposed Amharic and the Geez script on most Ethiopians and attempted on Eritreans yet Amharic language is not used by Ogaden unlike most Ethiopians?
Because the Ogaden in Jigjiga thinks his capital is Muqdisho, not Adis Ababa.
it doesn't make sense to me, Somali region of Ethiopia have been under Addis Ababa government for a century. Under Amhara rule, all ethnic languages were banned and Amharic were enforced all those years until 1990 when centralism was replaced by federalism.

So, how did Ethiopian Somalis escape this and why they are the only few ethnic not to speak Amharic after living decades under Selassie and Mengistu?

In jigjiga there is an electronic shop that has the blue flag.
In Diridawa there is also an electronics shop that also have the blue flag.
they think and talk about muqdisho.
and dhaanto singers sing about muqdisho
and there is also A Hawiye business man in your neck of the wood who has a blue flag.

seeing a hawiye business man in ogaden town who think about muqdisho got you so emotional you couldn't help but dedicated this topic to the "Somalinimo hating iidoor" and show that you and hawiye are one and strong and iidoor alone and weak. :russ:

Yes, show me a blue flag in Hargaisa and I would take you serious. Facing reality is one thing, but knowing your identity is another. In America, I am more worried of being robed by a nigger, but I root for a black quarterback when my own city is playing for a super bowl championship game. My chances of a nigger robbing me in America is higher than Donald Trump supporting redneck, yet I feel closer to that scary nigger. The point is Muqdisho, regardless of its flaws of Hawiye folks, is the capital of all Somalis. What kills me the most is that while Hargaisa Marqaan land claims to be democratic, I am unable to see people praising the blue flag freely. That doesn't make any sense brother. And trust me, I have respect for you than that Ethiopian-loving and trouble instigating SOB called Hawdian.

Rev,
Brother I don't know who you, but I wish you visit Jigjiga, you would not see any Amharic spoken in Jigjiga. As a matter of fact, the Somali spoken in jigjiga is so pure that you would finally realize why Jigjiga is called the Somali cultural center. Most of the DDSI ministers are born in Somalia and don't speak Amharic. In Jigjiga University, the main instructional language is English followed by Somali. There is an entire department in Jigjiga University that is teaches Somali literature but you will not find an Amharic literature department.

Miracle indeed but if everyone suffered from amharization in the late 19th to 20th century and not Ethiopian Somalis then there must be a reason behind why Selassie chose not to spead amharization on them.

They do speak Amharic in Jigjiga and most towns in Somali Region.

Only in the country side they don't really speak Amharic. The nomads are off the grid and self-reliant.

Amharic is taught at school and Somali region has the second highest illiteracy rate in Ethiopia only second to Afar.

Most city people are bilingual or multiple.

There was less integration due to differences in lifestyle. Amharic penetrate city dwellers but not nomads who are on the move between Somali Republic, Ethiopia, Djibouti and Kenya.

Somalis like Afar didn't value schools either so no one showed up in Ethiopian school system. Enrolment was very low. Even powerful empires like the British and Italians struggled with education of nomads.

None of them built a university.

The United Nations established the first Somali university in Mogadishu called Somali National University in 1953.

The south came under UN-Trusteeship after Italy was defeated by the allies while Eritrea came under BMA.

Walaahay i am not gonna lie, in the Jigjiga courts, they have to hire oromo girls to translate documents from Addis. I couldn't find anyones Somali Ogaden to translate for me in jigjiga. They have few Oromo employees that translate docs.

You absolutely right, anyone that travelled around will tell you the same, forget about occupation or being pro-colonial for a moment, a lot of them (not all) have something no other Somali's anywhere in the world have, and that's deep hatred for other Somali's, Somaliweyn, Somalinimo and that ethnic blue Flag that represents the 5 regions.

To accuse the people that have most likely sacrificed the most blood in defence of Somalinimo throughout history of being pro-colonial is callous and treachery, There is no Somali that is free today, we are all shamefully under colonization, due to our own collectivity idiocy, what's even more shameful then all of that is those morons that are in denial, everywhere you'll find large groups of pro somaliweyn, I even met many Bantu's and NFD Somali's, everywhere except the triangle of the 3 Habro's up North.
Hawiye is where somali shame starts. You hate somali so much that you have attacked and killed thousands of your neighboring somalis of most where children. To make it even worse is that now you use somali name to beg for international aid and use that aid to buy houses in dubai or Kenya. Shameful people. Isaaq were the ones who brought about Somaliweyn idea when you were no where to be found

We have a trend with in somali. The weaker clans that can't stand on their own feet are always calling for Somaliweyn (more handouts from somali elsewhere) and the stronger clans are calling for self dependency and standing on your own two feet (against the freeloading Somaliweyn ideology)

What is the benefit to say ciise, mj, isaaq for a Somaliweyn, most likely they will be the ones contributing to the rest so maha. Why should I contribute to someone else.
