Re: Messages from Muslim Americans
Thank you, udun/gerigoor for gathering all these great stories on one thread; it captured the very essence of what it is to be Muslim in today's society. I identified greatly with many of the quotes from the NPR story, especially the Nigerian Muslimah who talked about the covert/hidden "elegant racism" that is found in the urbanised liberal metros of the Northeast, MidWest, and West Coast, as opposed to the more overt racism that is found south of the Mason-Dixon line and in the Bible Belt.
We ain't going anywhere. We are part and parcel of "this land/our land"; in my case, and in the case of Shirib, Fah, Taliye AW252, that means US and A/Amreekaa/Ameeriko. In the case of others, it means the UK, or Canada, or Australia, or Scandinavia. The prejudice and bigotry that Muslim-Americans have to deal with on a daily/weekly basis is nothing unique to our community: From 20's all the way thru the '60's, during the great Communist hysteria(after-effects which still linger today), left-leaning Americans were viciously persecuted, blacklisted, and harassed by both government and society alike; for 80 years, unofficial slavery existed in the form of systematic racism and codified Jim Crow laws, again, implemented by both government(federal AND state) and society.
And so on and so forth. Nativist prejudice and xenophobic bigotry are normal** human reactions during times of fear & panic, especially when ignorance is widespread among the populace. During WWII, Asian-Americans and any man or woman who even bore a slight Asiatic resembles(eyes, etc) were subject to withering torrents of physical and verbal abuse ; loyal Japanese-Americans were gathered in concentration camps like they were cattle.
**"normal" per historical standards; but it's not ok or acceptable at all. Just saying that throughout history, even as in today, it is common to the point of inevitability to blame and persecute "outsiders" and "others", especially when the hysteria is whipped up by fear-mongers. We as humans are evolving in our morality and hopefully, centuries from now, we will be able to overcome our innate(?) hate, prejudice, & bigotry on a societal and international level. Naieve? Idealistic? No, it's a long slog, but progressive liberalism will achieve what all other religions/systems/philosophies have failed in doing: societies where all are equal, where prejudice & bigotry are wiped out, human rights and freedoms are guaranteed for all.
This is anti-Muslim bigotry is but a passing moment, a storm that is almost spent; for every decade that goes by, society becomes more liberal, more enlightened, and more tolerant. Witness the widespread acceptance of gay marriage, something that would have been unthinkable 2 generations ago.
This is our land..................and it is more than that: It is our home. We ain't going anywhere
Now, lest anybody get comfortable in victimization-mode, let's not forget that we, as Muslims, and as Somalis, have our own ugly and disgusting history with racism, misogyny, prejudice, bigotry, and slavery for 14 centuries and counting(including the so-called "golden" era of the "pious Sahaba"). So yeah, Donald Trump may want to ban Muslims from entering the US..................but uh, at least he's not, you know, advocating and defending slavery, like so many mainstream "pious" scholars are doing, not centuries ago, but right now today. So by that measure, Donald Trump with all of his bigotry & stupidity has a higher moral compass than Bin Baz, Bin Uthaymayn, and Ibn Taymiya, #truthhurts.com. At least Donald Trump isn't advocating that he has a right to hold Muslim woman as "concubines" and rape them at will, and when he's done with them, he can then pass it on to his friends <------ all of that disgusting qashin which is defended and supported by both "distinguished classical scholars(per zuumale) as well as contemporary ulema. So given that the Donald has a higher/better moral compass than the vast majority of our scholars(past and present), you can see why we are in desperate need of a massive Reformation that would make the Protestant Reformation look like a minor revision.

Aisha, one of the reasons that I can't get myself away from SNET is your gigs.

Laaska has an Internet though, but if I would go back, I would be chilling in Ceeri, Awrboogeys, and Nugaal valleys.
Btw, I am anti Trump and can never find myself supporting nor associating with that punk, con-artist, and all of the bigots that surround him.
Re: Messages from Muslim Americans
Leftist, knowing you and your never endless tirade against Islam and sahaba, I went straight to the concluding paragraph and, as usual, found your never endless anti-Islam tirade. Truth is, Islam has gradually eliminated slavery. Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessing of Allah be upon him) and his wife, Aisha (May Allay be pleased with her), has bought the freedom of more than 70 slaves.
These verses in the Noble Quran clearly show how Islam has advocated for the ending of slavery. And since the Quran is aware of human resistance to change, its approach is a gradual ending of this practice by making the freedom of slaves as mandatory for those who commit certain crimes, and at the same time advocating for abolishing and preventing it altogether.
Now, many Islamophobes like you like to twist certain verses in the Noble Quran and try to present Islam as if it condones slavery when the truth is the opposite; however, the commands in the Noble Quran and the sayings of Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah) through his actions clearly disprove anything that you can use as an ammunition to the lies that many people like you run with.
The Sahaba that you attack are million times better than you and others like you. You claim to be a Muslim, yet persistently attack the companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and many other Islamic scholars, such Ibn Tamiya, who very heavily contributed to Islam and humanity as a whole.
You always run with the bogus reformation and promote things like homosexual agenda as if it is a societal progress. To us as Muslims, that is not a lifestyle we accept, it is not condoned by our faith and traditions, and it is not something we see as progress or healthy.
In know you. You aint fooling me. And your desperate attempt of trying to hide your disbelief is not fooling me either. Your faint attempts of promoting homosexuality while hiding behind a bogus reformation will never work. And no matter how many essays you write, you will never be successful in convincing Muslims to accept your approach. We've been forewarned to stay clear from people like you and your false prophet. And to your dismay, Islam will grow and grow, everyday we have new converts, and it is the fastest growing religion in the world!!!

The topic of how Islam ended slavery has been greatly explained here: http://home.insightbb.com/~adamwatson/s ... avery.html
It is not righteousness that you turn your faces toward East or West; but it is righteousness . . . to spend of your substance . . . for the ransom of slaves. (2:177)
Never should a Believer kill a Believer; but (if it so happens) by mistake, (compensation is due): if one (so) kills a Believer, it is ordained that he should free a believing slave, and pay compensation to the deceased's family . . . For those who find this beyond their means, (is prescribed) a fast for two months running: by way of repentance to Allah. (4:92)
Allah will not call you to account for what is futile in your oaths, but will call you to account for your deliberate oaths: for expiation, feed ten indigent persons . . . or clothe them; or give a slave his freedom. If that is beyond your means, fast for three days. (5:89)
Alms are for the poor and the needy, and those employed to administer the (funds); . . . for those in bondage and in debt . . . (9:60)
But for those who divorce their wives . . . then wish to go back on the words they uttered, - (it is ordained that such a one) should free a slave before they touch each other: this you are admonished to perform . . . And if any has not (the wherewithal), he should fast for two months consecutively before they touch each other. But if any is unable to do so, he should feed sixty indigent ones. (58:3-4)
Verily We have created Man into toil and struggle. . . . And what will explain to you the path that is steep? - (It is:) freeing the bondman . . . (90:4-13)
