Another Somali word that others have picked up is Xamaal.

Both Hindi and Urdu were heavily influenced by Farsi language since Persia was a powerful force in that part of the world until the advent of Islam. Persian rule also reached North East Africa. Keep in mind we have Zoroastrian customs such as Nawruz adopted to our (Somali) culture.

Therefore, for someone to compare Somali words with Hindi/Urdu languages, one should first verify if those words had their origins in Farsi.

Our historic trade with Hindustan and Persia is also well-documented. Check the Somali folklore and you will find Calcutta and Bandar Abbas very much present in all of our trade with those kingdoms. The only third place that comes near is Basra which we (Somalis) used to go to import dates.

So to address the OP's question, it requires considerable work that takes into account Somali, Acadian, Farsi, Arabic, Urdu, Hindi, and perhaps other extinct Semitic languages.

Perhaps this Somali guy who is singing in Hindi/Urdu can solve the question.
