Yes, it's not entirely halal only under certain conditions you just have to be careful where it goes to a family member or someone who needs it's ok but under certain conditions.

My grandmother fell ill from lack of blood few years back and doctors wanted to give blood, she consulted an Islamic scholar and he said she can't refuse because that means she would be risking her life and that itself is haram.

Saving life comes above everything whether that is a Muslim or a non.

You don't make sense. You have to save your own life but you don't have to do that for another person? Your life is worth more miyaa? The Qur'an is clear:

“…if any one killed a person, it would be as if he killed the whole of mankind; and if any one saved a life, it would be as if he saved the life of the whole of mankind…” - The Holy Quran (Chapter Five, Verse 32).

You guys are forgetting what Islam is all about which is mercy. It's a shame cos ur making the deen into something it isn't. Islam is beautiful and what you're saying isn't. Scholars aren't always right. Some scholars are pro-FGM. Are they right? The deen doesn't say don't use your own brain. You're making us like the Jehova's who don't take donated blood. Anyway i'm gonna do it regardless cos I think it's halal.
